It's complicated but French Guiana is an overseas region while Saint Martin is on overseas collectivity. Its similar to how Hawaii is a state but Guam is a territory.
No, it's not. It's a British Overseas Territory. That's not the same thing as being an actual part of the UK. It's a remnant of the British Empire that has chosen to maintain its links with the UK (constitutionally, the people of Gibraltar have the options of maintaining links with the UK or becoming part of Spain, but not of independence).
Gibraltar is self-governing except for foreign and defence matters. It has its own parliament and does not have representation in the UK parliament (by contrast somewhere like the Shetlands, which ARE part of the UK although they are also geographically removed from the mainland, sends MPs to Westminster).
French Guiana, by contrast, is fully incorporated into France and has the same constitutional status as the regions of metropolitan France.
@Taserz, I took the trouble to explain why a place that 'belongs to' the UK is not the same as a place that is part of the UK. Spain doesn't border the UK; it DOES border a British overseas territory. Go ask any British diplomat or constitutional lawyer and they'll tell you the same thing.
You only made the list because you border Germany. If there was a quiz for crappiest countries that border each other you'd also make that because you border Belgium :)
Even the quiz itself shows how nonsensical scrumpyones statement is. Germany has 9 neighbours, and the Netherlands is one of only three appearing on this quiz.
It is in the top 10% of largest economies while only being 131st largest in size. (most of the smaller ones are islands) so yea, not much credit to your statement.
Edit: looked at gdp without ppp, with ppp, it would be more like top 15% Still, that is being in the big leagues imo.
Besides even if belgium was crappy, which it isnt at all, netherlands wouldnt be on that list, it would raise the average right of the list by it's uncrappiness ;) If there was an uncrappy list, that pair would actually make it quite high up the list. I would think. As would norway-sweden.
What the Devil? The Netherlands and Belgium are definitely not 'crappy' countries, whatever that means. I visited those countries myself, and overall they seem to be populated by nice people, and they contain beautiful architecture and scenery. The Netherlands also has very large economy for its size. Or you might just be a troll.">
Have you been to The Netherlands or Belgium? I went to both this year and they’re fantastic places. What a weird thing to do, going to a quiz comment section (and a comment about a different country) and shoe-horning in a fatuous insult about an oddly specific (and different) country.
GNP is a very bad indicator of wealthiness. But even if we could obtain a more worthy indicator, the Vatican would never qualify if it wasn't a per capita ranking.
yeah I guess I didn't consider some countries are very small in addition to being poor. There's also one pair in central Asia and another in South America.
why? there are so many countries on here that border one of the listed ones, but arent on here. They only make it on if they have a large economy. For instance mongolia didnt even make it eventhough china is at the top of the list. It isnt a quiz about who nenigbours large economies. Both countries count. Netherlands is nr 17 worldwide btw so yea netherlands definitely should be there..

@barmanitan, I have no idea. It does seem odd.

United States - Canada: 9.5
I was like "wait, Canada is poorer than Mexico??!" Then after a while I realized it wasn't per capita.
*unhappy French noises*
