i am here to correct you. Inspector Gadget was a cartoon in the early 90s WAY before it was a terrible Matthew Broderick movie. In fact, a snipet of it is in the new Samsung Gear watch/phone commercial.
I always thought it was funny that Don Adams who starred as the original Maxwell Smart, also did the voice of Inspector Gadget in the cartoon. The characters were so much alike.
correction - Disney hung, drew and quatered it, stuck it in a furnace and roasted it, then took it out, boiled it, incinerated it then buried the ashes in four corners of Egypt.
Kinda amazing how many people are unaware of the Inspector Gadget cartoon these days. I've never watched it (or not that I recall at least), but I thought it was pretty common pop culture knowledge.
The prequels didn’t really need to be made but they could have been a lot better. If Lucas was a better director and was better at writing dialogue, they’d probably be much more well-received.
Yea when I read his comment I thought (the first microsecond) what does he think it is?! A theatershow? But slowly vaguely remember hearing or seeing something about there being a movie
wayyy too old?? how old are you? most of these were 80s cartoons...
(I guess it might also depends on when you stopped watching cartoons... some stop at 4 some still watch at 40s...)
I think the newest on here is spongebob? And if you have seen it or not, it is something that has been hard to get around. (like with like minions... those are everywhere too, though talked less about, you have em as beanies and slippers and any damn thing you can think of. Wait... I thought of something that might not have a minion version.. hahah!! then again... you never know...)
So this comment got me wondering how old are you that you're WAY too old for these. Going through them and finding the average year they debuted in animated format (keep in mind some are much older properties, such as Disney fairy tale adaptations and Batman who took a long time from conception to getting his first cartoon series), I found that year to be 1978. Only one debuted after the year 2000 (Adventure Time). By decade the breakdown is: 1930s - 1; 1940s - 1; 1950s - 3; 1960s - 4; 1970s - 0; 1980s - 7; 1990s - 7; 2000s - 1; 2010s - 0. More than half of them debuted before 1984.
And "de Vil" is written here right aswell (though admittedly, I would have written "deVille" myself. I didnt used to realise it is a play on words for devil.)
On the version of Popeye which played when I was kid, the villains were Brutus and the Sea Hag - that was in the early 1960s. Bluto was from the older versions.
Yeah, this was the result of a weird copyright dispute that didn't actually exist. See, Fleischer Studios made theatrical Popeye cartoons from 1933-1957 that were distributed by Paramount. King Features, who owned the original comic strip, decided to produce a Popeye cartoon show in 1960, and thought that the character of Bluto had been created for the Fleischer shorts, and thus Paramount owned the rights to him. To get around this, King Features just made an identical character and named him "Brutus" instead. However, Bluto wasn't made for the Fleischer shorts, but had appeared in the comic strip in 1932, meaning King Features had full rights to him the whole time and just... didn't check, I guess. So any Popeye cartoons made after the 1960-1963 run of the TV show went back to "Bluto."
I wonder if anyone's ever tried that dip from Who Framed Roger Rabbit on him. I could totally believe he's a cartoon villain in disguise like Christopher Lloyd's character.
Yup, there was a story arc where five of the show's biggest villains formed a team and created their own evil rings with powers like Smog, Hate, and Super Radiation, that combined their powers to make Captain Pollution.
Nobody ever thought of that androgynous beaver cat looking thing as being on equal footing with Bullwinkle. Everyone just called the show Bullwinkle. Even Mr. Peabody's pet boy, Sherman, was way more exciting. And The Fractured Fairy Tales kicked butt.
Loved this quiz - truly a challenge for me! Surprised I remembered the power puff girls, as that was so long ago for me. I am more into the geography category on this website, but this was super fun to go outside my expertise
Got all but 1. I actually never heard of "Rocky & Bullwinkle" before, maybe it was not translated into german... But googling them made me think of the Happy Tree Friends... ;)
I would have loved to see one of the villains from my childhood on the list - Crabby Appleton from the Tom Terrific serials on the Captain Kangaroo show. I won a free haircut with that answer on a radio trivia contest once. "My name is Crabby Appleton, I'm rotten to the core, I do a bad deed every day, and sometimes three or four..."
Kudos for including an antagonist from Adventure Time, but the one you chose is a bit obscure, even for a fan like myself. I would suggest a different villain, such as the Lich, Ice King, Magic Man, or Hunson Abadeer.
The Lich would be more fitting given the other villains listed on this quiz. He was always the biggest threat and recurred the most out of all of the villains.
As someone who never watched Adventure Time as a kid, I thought I knew all the big characters through cultural osmosis but apparently not lol. But hey, I appreciate that you avoided the more basic pick of Ice King (especially since he's not really evil)!
That's supercool information! Thanks!
