Fantastic quiz, really forces you to think! Besides Venice, Dubai, Monaco and Montreal, which were instantly obvious to me, I had to really think about the other ones, and tried to reallly recognize features on the photos instead of simply typing in major cities as quickly as I could. Although perhaps I should have, as I wouldn't have missed Boston... D'oh! I knew that layout was familiar!!!!!!!! II must have 3 maps of Boston as home from previous trips, I should have recognized it.

I would never have got the bottom line. I didn't see any discernable features that made me think of those cities.

That doesn't look that much like the Gulf of Tadjoura, but I can see how someone might get them confused.

I'm sort of with you, but I tried Berbera (Somaliland), because I was also convinced it was in that area - and I was pretty sure it wasn't Djibouti. Anyway, I checked, and Berbera doesn't sit across from Yemen like that. Eventually, I did get it - I don't know how - but I did take a boat once from B.A. to Colonia - one hour to get across a river! (Anyway, as if it was going to be Berbera.)

surely Monte Carlo should be acceptable for Monaco
+5
Level 56
Jan 21, 2021
No? Monte Carlo is just one part of the city-state of Monaco. That's like saying Kensington should be acceptable for London. Only because it's fairly central and commonly mistaken for it doesn't mean it's the whole city.

I also refused to enter random cities and only entered answers I was sure of. Four of them came right away including two I know from of all things - board games; Venice and Amsterdam. Got two more by recognizing the water. I'm just curious if Windsor would have worked for Detroit.

#1: large and building-packed city with only one long sinuous river... London? Hooray!

#2: geometrical city with dykes/polders and stuff... Amsterdam? Hooray!

#3: no idea, looks like Channel of panama.. Panama City? Not even close.

#4: Dubai, ofc.

#5 to #9: no idea, only 01:30 remaining, must hurry...

#10: huh... ocean by east, large city, could be many... Shanghai? No, but at least found #6...

#11: small and full of yachts docked... Monaco? Hooray!

#12: no idea, 0:40 remaining, really not enough time...

#13: lake, river, lake, river... Great Lakes? Detroit? Hooray!

#14: 0:15 remaining, much like Detroit, what major city is near... Montreal? Hooray!

#15: time up, didn't even noticed

7/15, but almost all on first try... Would appreciate really much if it was given at least one more minute to let us think a little more...

I tried Windsor, just to see if it would work. (It's a little different than the Sydney example - it's the only place I know of where you drive north from Canada to get to the U.S.)

Grand Manan Island.

Victoria, BC.

Coburn Gore

Campobello

A suburb is a suburb is a suburb. There are 100s of them in these images.

The picture of Detroit looks like bombs going off all over town. The way Motown is going, Windsor may be the actual city in that area in the next few decades.

I'm actually from Windsor. Windsor and Detroit actually grew independently from one another. Detroit is older but Windsor's first origins were located further west of where the current city center is. Windsor isn't a suburb at all either.

I missed Istanbul and Chicago. But the satellite picture of Buenos Aires does look a lot like the Red Sea, Djibouti and Yemen. It may be Buenos Aires though, too. I think they look very alike. No idea! But a great quiz! Thanks for making it! Can Monte Carlo work for Monaco or is it just a neighbourhood in Monaco?
