This is a new format that we are rolling out gradually. Let me know what you think!

This is just like Multiple Choice, except that the answers are the same for every question.

Some similarities. One big difference is that we can easily have lots more choices.

There is also the option (not used on this quiz) to have one-to-one matching. For example, this quiz.

Oh cool, new quiz format. Love it! Was hoping for something like this. I'd made a quiz a bit like the one-to-one version using the click map format but it was fiddly and not so great on mobile. The functionality here is so much better. Curious to see what the options will be.

Interesting new format, I liked it. Would be great if it could be more visual eventually by clicking on a map. Found the presentation of the options in left to right alignment a bit off-putting, but maybe there's a mobile phone reason why that was the case.

Great new quiz format! Glad to see you still have some new stuff in store for quizzers!

Just a note: I might have put the answers in 2 columns instead of a single line. But maybe this new format does not allow to choose how the answer buttons are placed.

In Edinburgh, on my way to work every day, I used to pass a basketball hoop that talked about James Naismith.

I always thought he was Scottish because of this - damn you, random basketball hoop!

Interesting quiz. It's questionable whether Australia is a continent by itself. Normally this site uses Oceania not Australia. Otherwise PNG, NZ and all the other Pacific islands are wiped off the map. And having the islands in there might balance out the mostly desert but super wealthy stats of the island of Oz.

I was surprised at that too, especially since you aren't allowed to go to Antarctica if you're not 18. I'm guessing the population is so sporadic that they have no data on it.

I have a bug. The first question was "Largest continent by population". The second question was "Largest continent by population". The remaining eighteen questions were all "Largest continent by population". The following fifty-one questions were still all "Largest continent by population". I clicked "Asia" 71 times and then "Give up". The stats say I got 355% correct and 71/20, but "Your high score is 1". I blame my computer. Still, no harm done. I got 0/5 points. I look forward to trying this format on another device :-(

Update: This only happens when I am logged out.

"Continent" has no official global definition. Some countries say Australia is a continent, some say Oceania is the continent. Some say Europe and Asia are separate continents, some say they're both part of the continent of Eurasia. Some say the Americas are a single continent, some say North and South America are two separate ones. It all depends on who you talk to.

If we had enough data the median age of antarctica would probably be higher than Europe, since it is mostly researchers
+1
Level 56
Oct 24, 2024
Most of the researchers on Antarctic expeditions are in their 20s-40s, lots of young adult students doing a PhD etc. The guides based down there are usually in their 30s, mostly because you can't have a family on base. By comparison, Europe's median population is in the mid 40s, which is definitely higher than Antarctica. It is most certainly not the case that over half of Antarctic researchers are in their late 40s or 50s (or above).
