The Lafayette/Lehigh rivalry has been going since the 1880s....I am not sure but it might be the oldest college sports rivalry in the country...that's most likely why it is on there
Having grown in Madison even though Paul Bunyan's axe is a major rivalry it's lost a lot of muster in the recent years. A better one would be The Heartland Trophy which is against Iowa.
There are a couple of good Mid American Conference rivalries: The Michigan MAC Trophy between Central, Westen, and Eastern Michigan, The Miami vs. Ohio Battle of the Bricks, and my favorite, Akron vs. Kent for the Wagon Wheel.
Unfortunately the Border War between Mizzou and Kansas is now dormant due to conference changes. Another Missouri rivalry which is the victim of conference changes is the Hickory Stick rivalry between Truman State University and Northwest Missouri State University. It was the oldest traveling trophy in Division II football.
I concur with adding at least army vs navy. Been a long storied rivalry that not only has been around for years but also has a great meaning behind the game and the men who play in it.
You could make about 12 more questions solely out of Big Ten games. Even Nebraska, as a relative newcomer has three distinctly named "trophy" games, like - and I swear I'm not making this up - the $5 Bits of Broken Chair Trophy game between Nebraska and Minnesota.
Army vs Navy hasn't been a good rivalry for the past couple years, so it kind of dropped off the map a little. It's still know, just not as well as it used to be.
Considering the Army-Navy game has its own day when nobody else plays on that day, it should definitely be on here. Other than that, I think this is a good quiz. Michigan-Michigan State should not be on here because Michigan-Ohio State is the bigger of the two rivalry games and a team should only show up once in this. If you want one very few people will get, maybe add North Texas-Middle Tennessee State. It's such a big rivalry for the two teams that when UNT switched to C-USA, MTSU followed for the rivalry aspect of football.
As usual, sports fans bought down my point total. Coming in with virtually no knowledge of the subject I managed to come up with 10, which I was feeling pretty good about, but then I only got 1 point for my efforts.
May I suggest to you, the Egg Bowl/Battle for the Golden Egg - likely the fiercest rivalry in college football, not because the teams are evenly matched or good, but because us fans absolutely hate each other, with a huge fight breaking out on the field or in the stands nearly every year. It is between Mississippi State and Mississippi ("Ole M*ss"), and occurs every Thanksgiving [that it can]. It is also the tenth longest uninterrupted series in NCAA Football (1944-date) and has been played 119 times (as of March 2023).
Lehigh-Lafayette with 147 total meetings and first played in 1884, must have player multiple times some years.
