Cuba is listed on the source, which claims there are just over 100 people with the name alive in the United States in 2020. Seychelles is a name that not even 100 people have, if the source is accurate. America didn't show up on this list, either, but according to another page it was the 410th most popular name in the US in 2002.
I've met a few women named Mali here in Wales - it's a Welsh variation of Molly. Would be interesting to see which countries are commonly used as names in different countries around the world :)
Ireland crossed my mind for some reason, but I thought there's no way anyone would be called that. I'm kinda surprised that China and France did not make the list.
I so wanted Hungary to make this list. Just think of the resulting confusion. Who the heck names their kid Malaysia, though? Never would have guessed that.
My parents decided to go with a city name instead of a country one. However, they wanted to use the traditional name of the city in the language spoken there, so I'm named Krung Thep Mahanakhon Amon Rattanakosin Mahinthara Ayuthaya Mahadilok Phop Noppharat Ratchathani Burirom Udomratchaniwet Mahasathan Amon Piman Awatan Sathit Sakkathattiya Witsanukam Prasit. That's only my given name, though. My last name is, in the same vein, Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch.
Funnyfact: here in Brazil, some years ago there was a soapopera with a family named after countries. The kids were called Israel, Italy, Afghanistan (!!) and Belgium. Their mother, if i'm not mistaken, was called Australia, and her siblings also had country names.
Tho, calling your children after countries is not common here. The only ones I remember to meet were Israel and Georgia. Brazilians are way more creative in this topic. Most of the names probably come from catholic religion, but we have lots of very creative and specific names that only exist here.
Now I'm thinking of countries that would make great names: Liberia, Andorra, Monaco, Vatican, Austria, Lesotho, Mali, Colombia, Argentina, Trinidad, Canada, Norway . . .
i legit sat down and said names out loud like "meet our girl Eswatini" or "look, baby Papua New Guinea". still did pretty bad on this quiz but had a good laugh!
Poor children! Fantasy always overtakes reality: in Hillaire Belloc's poem The Modern Traveller there's a Liberian high official named Cain Abolition Beecher Boz. At the turn of the (previous) century this kind of name was meant as a joke, but... :)
Jordan, Chad, Georgia, Dominica, and Mali all existed as names in their own right. The rest were derived from the names of countries (yes, even Israel).
As a non-American here, this list was WILD. I'm also slightly disappointed there aren't thousands of São Tomé and Príncipe's around. Now that would be a nice, quirky name.
don't know if it's just because I'm Australian, but I expected Mali to be MUCH higher on this list. The number of girls I've known who have been called Mali or Amarli or Mahli or some variation of the name is crazy.
omg im Iranian and totally didnt thin about it, i wrote persia thinking that can be a name. Iran is actually a girls name in Iran and usually older women

That being said, I know it's a name... just forgot it's a country xD
"Hi, Hungary, I'm Dad"
"Mike for Michael?"
"No, for Federated States of Micronesia."
'Hello little Malaysia!"
"Hi Ireland"
These poor children, probably bullied XD
