That photo of Angel Falls, with the low water flow and the extra sunlight (or overexposure) definitely worked hard to make me think it was El Capitan!

I couldn't figure that one out until I enlarged it and saw the waterfall.

Yup, couldn't see the waterfall, thought that was monasteries at the top and couldn't work out why Greece wouldn't work for Meteora.

Yeah, I also thought it was Yosemite Falls at first :)

Updated with a better picture which doesn't look like El Cap at all...

Beautiful. New Zealand was my downfall, the volcano looks a bit generic with no recognizable features.

Ditto. I thought it might be Ojos del Salado in Chile at first and then tried all the Andean countries. Never crossed my mind that it might be NZ.

Double ditto. From now on I'll know that non-descript volcanoes are a symbol for New Zealand.

It's Ngauruhoe in the Tongariro volcanic complex. I think you can see Ruapehu in the background... But it does look a lot like the Andes, I agree.

Andes was my first thought. Tried every South American country before giving up.

As mentioned below, this is a view of "Mount Doom" from the Tongariro Crossing.

If you are a Kiwi, and you haven't done the crossing, maybe you should!

That's the only reason I got this one. I recognized Mount Doom! Spectacular.

I got it, it's very famous. As a kiwi, I have no intention of walking it. It's too exposed, there is no tree cover.

Darn it, I'm a Kiwi and got NZ wrong...it doesn't really look like anywhere specific though.

If I remember right, that's Mt. Ngauruhoe as seen from the Tongariro crossing, with Mt. Ruapehu in the background. Climbed Ngauruhoe with a buddy when on that hike about 10 years ago. The whole crossing is an awesome experience, highly recommended!

Tongariro crossing, having struggled to the top I’m not forgetting that view ever!

I lucked out and got it while guessing NZ for another photo.

Should have had a pasture of sheep and then you would have gotten it.

Mt Ngauruhoe is Mt Doom in the Lord of the Rings films. You see this view when doing the Tongariro Crossing, one of the best day walks in the world. Did it last year, just fantastic.

As a kiwi, instantly recognizable, Mt Ngaruahoe, from on Mt Tongariro, with Mt Ruapehu behind.

"Israel/Palestine?" Really? Palestine is not a country.

Come on, keep that debate from JetPunk please. The Dome of the Rock has long been associated with Islam and is an international symbol for Palestine. The quizmaster did good by including it. Israel still counts and is mentioned first, so there's really no need for this discussion. Peace.

Palestine is not a recognised country on JetPunk. We should keep things consistent with the JetPunk criteria.

It is. Just partially recognised, like Kosovo. Or Taiwan.

Does it really matter anyways? Israel is still an acceptable answer. It's not like it's only Palestine.

you cant partially be a country, you are or you arent ( and I leave discussing when you are or arent one, up to someone else)

Of course you can--there are now, and have always been, gray areas of ambiguity and standards that vary from list to list, commenter to commenter. Not just for what constitutes a country, but where to draw its borders (countries disagree), what their "capital city" is (a concept which varies in meaning from country to country, etc.). It's not a drawback--it's part of what makes it fun.

Some consistency is a good idea, since it's fun to make canonical lists and quiz ourselves on it, but let's not fool ourselves into thinking exact geographical truth is handed down from on high.

I recognize all of them. Palestine should be officially recognized because it was Israel who kicked them out of their own country.

Palestine is a country but with limited recognition like Kosovo and Taiwan, but in Jetpunk Palestine is not recognized.

Only got Norway because I read a book about Norway two weeks ago and that exact picture was in the book. Never would have gotten it otherwise.

Only got New Zealand because I am from there and have done the Tongariro Crossing.

stave church. Built without nails. So a famous building (in Norway) and type of building (in Norway). Thats the Heddal church south west of Oslo. The biggest and I think oldest surviving example
