If I remember right, that's Mt. Ngauruhoe as seen from the Tongariro crossing, with Mt. Ruapehu in the background. Climbed Ngauruhoe with a buddy when on that hike about 10 years ago. The whole crossing is an awesome experience, highly recommended!
Mt Ngauruhoe is Mt Doom in the Lord of the Rings films. You see this view when doing the Tongariro Crossing, one of the best day walks in the world. Did it last year, just fantastic.
Come on, keep that debate from JetPunk please. The Dome of the Rock has long been associated with Islam and is an international symbol for Palestine. The quizmaster did good by including it. Israel still counts and is mentioned first, so there's really no need for this discussion. Peace.
Of course you can--there are now, and have always been, gray areas of ambiguity and standards that vary from list to list, commenter to commenter. Not just for what constitutes a country, but where to draw its borders (countries disagree), what their "capital city" is (a concept which varies in meaning from country to country, etc.). It's not a drawback--it's part of what makes it fun.
Some consistency is a good idea, since it's fun to make canonical lists and quiz ourselves on it, but let's not fool ourselves into thinking exact geographical truth is handed down from on high.
I made a few quizzes similar to this one for anyone who enjoys this sort of thing, using pictures I took myself. You can find them all here (the "Countries/Cities/Places My Car Has Been" quizzes)
Is the Norway picture a famous building or an architecture type as the identifying aspect? It was the one I did not know and would love to learn something new
stave church. Built without nails. So a famous building (in Norway) and type of building (in Norway). Thats the Heddal church south west of Oslo. The biggest and I think oldest surviving example
If you are a Kiwi, and you haven't done the crossing, maybe you should!

Only got New Zealand because I am from there and have done the Tongariro Crossing.
