Man, that little yellow patch next to Israel threw me! I kept trying to figure out what other name Palestine went by that started with "B" that was keeping me from winning. That would be Brunai, and nowhere near that yellow dot.
The gray are within Israel are the Palestinian Territories. They are a country of West Asia. However, most other countries don’t include the Palestinian Territories as a country due to… controversial reasons.
both votes represent politics and not reality. In the first case, countries that do not recognize the Republic of China's very real sovereignty over the island of Taiwan are only expressing their desire to do business with the People's Republic of China and its massive economy. In the latter case, countries that recognize Palestine's non-existent sovereignty are only making the political statement that they are against what they wrongly perceive as colonialism, or that they hate Jews and/or believe Islam to be the one true faith, or that they are not fond of the United States, or that they are sympathetic toward the Palestinian people's suffering. Nobody who knows what they're talking about actually believes that the PNA rules over a sovereign territory.
There's no way to make this quiz that would satisfy everyone. But our position is that being a country requires sovereign control of territory, and that international recognition is of lesser importance. The UN could vote that 2+2=5 but it wouldn't make it so.
fromaj: those are three possibilities but if you read what I wrote I also said they could be misled, or have accepted a false narrative, or be believing Muslims, or have a bone to pick with the United States, or be sympathetic toward the suffering of the Palestinians. You could hate the USA and not be anti-Semitic. You could be sympathetic toward the Palestinians and not be stupid. You could be a Muslim who believes that the land is yours by divine providence and still know some things. There are a range of reasons why different countries and people wish to recognize Palestine as a country but none of those reasons are that the PNA actually exerts full sovereign control over a functioning and contiguous nation state.
Just a few things I would like to say: What was called Asia during the Antiquity is in fact the western part of Anatolia (i.e. Asian Turkey). It is rather strange that is has been extended to the entire continent, as far as Japan. It is also laughable that some now think that Middle East is NOT in Asia... As for Cyprus, then, since it is due south and close to Turkey, it is indeed in Asia.
The case of Russia is a bit different. I have always considered Siberia as a colony, Russia can still be considered as an Empire. Just think about the British Empire during the 19th century... the UK was indeed a European country, though it had colonies on every continent. The only difference is that Russia is contiguous, and that they kept Siberia because, well, it's not very populated, not very attractive, nobody seriously tried to conquer it, and there were never any serious separatists.
100% with 2:12 left on first try....People, stop complaining and just go read, ok?? the only one im not 100% sure is an asian country is Cyprus, but only cause its "relatively" new in the EU. The rest, I completely agree. Russia is Europe.
Quizmaster, why not avoid all the complaining and simpy include Russia and Cyprus in both Europe and Asia map quizzes? There's no rule saying the same country can't be in more than one quiz! Either way, it makes no sense to omit Russia when it comprises so much of the Asian continent.
I'm not trying to make any political statements, but Taiwan is not officially a sovereign nation and I don't think it should be included in the jetpunk quizzes.
I have been doing all the countries of the world separately. My parents told me that if I could memorize all the countries of the world they would give me $78 : ) I have finished Europe, Oceania and now Asia.
I agree regarding Russia, but sometimes the biggest, most obvious answers are the toughest. I can totally see getting Maldives, but forgetting China or Japan. I usually try to get the tough part of the quiz first. Just saying
As a rule I type in Singapore and Brunei at the same time as Malaysia so I don't forget them (I do the same with Italy and Monaco, San Marino, the Vatican and Malta)
Good night, good morning, good evening to everybody in the comments seeing the drama of continental borders. This quiz follows what JetPunk says about the continental borders. Meaning that countries like Egypt, Greece and Russia are not considered transcontinental, as well as Turkey, Indonesia and Yemen, that's why all of the country pops up in green. Countries that have territories aren't included in this quiz, being the UK and Australia. Hong Kong and Macau are part of China unlike Taiwan. And, lastly, Palestine, Artsakh, South Ossetia and Abkhazia aren't in the quiz.
Cyprus is split in half. The South region of Cyprus is part of the Greek Colony while the North region or as the Turks refer to it, The Turks Republic of Cyprus, is, as made obvious by it's name, a Turkish colony.
except palestine has no working government and their territory is mostly controlled by Israel. they don't function like a country and most services are payed by Israelites. however taiwan is completely independent of china and has its own government and china would have to invase taiwan in order to control it
cant we just base ourselves where the capital city is and done. Moscow is in Europe so russia is europe. Nicosia is in asia (All of cyprus is anyway) so its Asian, same goes for Ankara, Baku, Nur sultan, yerevan and tbilisi. all asian
Culturally it's european (mainly greek). Geographically however it's much closer from Asia (Anatolia), and I guess it would match if looking at underwater geography
not counting Russia... count it. It's just one answer more. I can type it easily. When we were kids and someone showed us a globe, the first thing we see on the Asian continent is the biggest country in the world. (of course it was USSR when I was a kid). So it overlaps two continents. Big deal.
This map quiz is controversial. Firstly, caucasus (including turkey) is a part of europe, Second, russia is an asian country, and also, cyprus is 100% an european country. Please fix this, it will prevent many arguments.
It's fun that in this one quiz alone, there are six acronym type-ins. Additionally, Myanmar can be shortened to Burma and there are four four-letter countries in this one continent. It's a speed-typer's paradise!
Typing in Kyrgabcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyzstan would even work!
Fortunately I abandoned attempts to work out with a few seconds remaining and put Brunei in
The case of Russia is a bit different. I have always considered Siberia as a colony, Russia can still be considered as an Empire. Just think about the British Empire during the 19th century... the UK was indeed a European country, though it had colonies on every continent. By that way of convoluted thinking, ALL of Africa should be in Asia, as it borders the Indian Ocean.
Could there be an Asia 2 map as a JetPunk SVG?
Like the South America 2 map, this one will have the Palestinian Territories as an available answer.
I was just thinking of it and I thought I would ask.
ok
