Norway has a lot of oil, I guess they use some of it.
+6
Level 65
Mar 19, 2019
Norway does not use its oil and gas for energy generation. 98% of the country's energy is generated by hydropower plants.
+7
Level ∞
Mar 19, 2019
96% of electricity is generated from hydro power. But people drive a lot. People fly a lot. People use a lot of natural gas to heat their homes. The world bank data says that 57% of total energy comes from fossil fuel sources.
+1
Level 76

Must be industrial use and flying, then; Norway has the most electric cars per capita in the world, and has banned fossil fuel use for heating buildings.
+2
Level 75
Mar 20, 2019
I think your explanation is correct (heating of homes and other buildings would be another major factor). Interestingly, however, fuel used for international flights (presumably involving the great majority of fuel used for flights originating or arriving at Norwegian airports) is not ascribed to any country. Thus, every country's carbon footprint is underestimated - some more than others, of course.

@tshalla Do you have a source with more information about that? Does that go for all international flights?

Vatican's wine consumption per capita counts on the wine used during Masses?
+2
Level 82
Dec 31, 2018
Why not?
+1
Level 75

because the Masses will be full of non-Vatican residents
+4
Level 76

Because after the consecration, the wine is changed (possibly by transubstantiation) into the blood of Christ. Therefore it's no longer wine, so it doesn't count. I should know - I'm a cardinal.
