So how much water does Saudi Arabia desalinate? 2.18 trillion liters sounds like a lot, and it is. It would be enough to fill almost 1 million Olympic size swimming pools. But it's also very small compared to natural bodies of water. It would take Saudi Arabia 5000 years to create enough desalinated water to fill Lake Superior.

you can still taste it in the water from the tap, too.

I hope you never drunk tap water there. It's officially not suitable for human consumption.

tastes better than chlorine water in the USA

Some of the tap water in Las Vegas is worse than chlorine. At the VA North East clinic, putrid beyond stench.

The Aliente DMV has very good water.

Israel cooperates with Jordan and others better than Las Vegas does.

Las Vegas floods sidewalks and streets, same at least since 1980.

I got nowhere for a while, until I tapped into the middle east (yes bad pun intended, though nearly unintentional). Ended up with 12, thought I would stay on 2-3 forever.

Surprised Peru, Morocco and perhaps Chile not on here. Maybe they lack the money to develop desalination plants, unlike the oil rich states. Surprised the US is,

Peru and Chile have a lot of natural fresh water sources, so I assume that's why they don't need to desalinate. I was surprised by Libya and Morocco not being on the list though.

I suspect that on the list of countries with the greatest length of water pipelines (large, long-distance ones, not regular water mains), Chile and Peru will both be somewhere near the top of the list. Argentina too, probably.

Kuwait is at or near the top of the list of biggest water importers in the world.

I think Kuwait ranks first for a percent of a country's water that is desalinated.

South Africa needs to hop on the bandwagon soon. I don't know how Cape Town will hold out any longer without extensive desalinization.

Libya isn't so high cuz they built a lot of pipelines from their Saharan aquifers to their coastal cities.

it's when you take the salt out of seawater to make it drinkable/usable by dissolving it

i'm guessing countries that don't have enough pure water do that because their land is very arid and they don't have enough water, hence why lots of gulf countries and north african ones are on there
