I would have gotten all 5 but I didn't notice that Democratic Republic of_________ popped up on my screen uninvited. If you give me that much, I'll get it.
In order to get Dominican Republic, the auto-correct system gives you Dominica. The same thing happens with Jackson, Mississippi on US cities quizzes when people are trying to type Jacksonville.
In French, we call them Congo-Brazzaville and Congo-Kinshasa. Not only does it settle the debate about what letter they begin with, it also helps for the Capitals of the World quiz!
What I'm saying is: French is clearly the superior language.
Why is "Democratic Republic of the" given? Since this quiz is about countries that start with D, I think D or (DR) should be the blank instead of the C.
If that was done for every country there would be no end to it - Commonwealth of Australia, People's Republic of China, Federative Republic of Brazil, etc. There are two countries with Congo in their names so the full names are used to differentiate.
If you are going to use 'Democratic Republic of the Congo' in this quiz then it should be the format for every country that is a so called 'Democratic Republic' The very fact that the quiz already has 'Democratic Republic of the ......' given is testimony that jetpunkers would not usually use that part of the country's name.
The difference is that the DRC is always known as the DRC to distinguish it from the Republic of the Congo. North Korea might officially be called "The Democratic People's Republic of Korea", but everybody calls it North Korea because there are no other countries called North Korea.
Agree. This is messy. So DRC is going to be removed from the C’s – not to mention reordered in the literally dozens upon dozens of quizzes where DRC is considered a “C” country. But “Republic of Congo” is going to stay in the Cs, despite it really beginning with an R?
Quizmaster works very hard to keep country references very standard here. So is this how you want it?
Whatever I do people will whine. These countries by letter quizzes have been ordered this way since the earliest days of the site. I'm not going to change after nearly a decade.
Story time. Once upon a time, on our Oscar Best Pictures quiz, we used the year the movie was made, not the year of the ceremony. I got so many complaints that I changed it to the year of the ceremony. Did the complaints stop? No, of course not.
What I've learned from this episode is that, when there are multiple possible interpretations of the data, you will always get complaints. The worst thing to do is to twist in the wind, tinkering with the quiz to try to stop the complaints. Because you won't. It's impossible to please everyone.
Have you read ANY of the comments. Literally half the comments are about it. They put DRC in here because there are two congos. DPRK, however, is called north korea because there is not another North Korea.

Does anyone else's mind suddenly come up with capitals when you need to think of countries? My mind is like: what about Dushanbe? Delhi? Dakar? And I am like: COUNTRIES!

I couldn't get away
… A cloud appears above your head
A beam of light comes shining down on you
Shining down on you
The cloud is moving nearer still
Aurora borealis comes in view
Aurora comes in view
… And I ran, I ran so far away
I just ran, I ran all night and day
I couldn't get away
… Reached out a hand to touch your face
You're slowly disappearing from my view
'Pearing from my view
Reached out a hand to try again
I'm floating in a beam of light with you
A beam of light with you
… And I ran, I ran so far away
I just ran, I ran all night and day
And I ran, I ran so far away
I just ran, I couldn't get away
