For anyone saying it is not a country, it is. Just not a sovereign country. It works just like Scotland: The Faroe Islands are a constituent country of the Kingdom of Denmark just like Greenland.
As some one from Guam, Micronesia is a region in which the Federate States of Micronesia is a single country. You have Guam/ North Micronesia (Part of the USA), Palau, Marshall Islands who aren't part of the country yet we are part of Micronesia. So I know it sounds petty, but at the same time to call the country Micronesia would be Politically incorrect as well.
Before it changed its name, was it incorrect to include Macedonia in the countries that start with M? Was it only falling under F? After all, the reason why it changed its name is precisely because there is a region called Macedonia which also includes northern Greece.
In my opinion, the fact that there is a region called Micronesia doesn't NECESSARILY prevent any country to be called that way. It just doesn't apply to the USA with America, but that doesn't make it a rule.
Otherwise, we could debate on Mongolia/Inner Mongolia (why could a country be called Mongolia as if it were a whole entity, as there is an inner Mongolia elsewhere), Samoa/American Samoa, or even states like California/Baja or Virginia/West Virginia.
It's the same reason the United States of America falls under U, rather than under A. America is a larger region that includes the United States; in the same way, Micronesia is a larger region that includes the Federated States.
It depends on who you ask. Personally, I call the region of North and South America "the Americas" or the Spanish speaking countries therein as "Latin America". I think "America" might be one of those terms like "yankee" where the definition changes as you travel outward.
Yes, by this logic, the USA and UAE both start with 'A,' DRC and Republic of the Congo both start with 'C,' and I guess the UK would start with 'G,' (United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland).
Everybody, the Federated States of Micronesia are under F because Micronesia is another term referring to all of Oceania. It's actually very similar to why the United States of America is under U and not A.
Micronesia is a region of Oceania, consisting of F.S. Micronesia, Palau, and the Marshall Islands. "Federated States of Micronesia" is the same type of thing as "United States of America". The difference is that the USA decided to use a short name, but F.S. Micronesia didn't. So, it starts with F.
As usual, I think people are simply cheating themselves while taking these quizzes by consulting Google. There is no way you can ever convince me the three quarters of the people who took this quiz knew the Federated States of Micronesia. I just refuse to believe it.
F.S. Micronesia was the first one I got. If you took the `Federated States´ out of this quiz, then not that many people would get it right without consulting Google.
Haha, same. I do the four with the Us: Nauru, Palau, Vanuatu, Tuvalu; then the "Islands": Marshall and Solomon; then "Two with five letters with an O": Tonga, Samoa; then "Two with multiple Is": Fiji, Kiribati. Then you just need to remember the (relatively) bigger ones: Papua New Guinea, Micronesia, New Zealand, and Australia. And you're home free.
Take a look at the "Most Popular Quizzes" list on the front page of the site. I guarantee you, no matter when you check, the top quiz will be "Countries of the World." On any given day, check the "New and Popular Quizzes" sidebar on a random page. I can pretty much guarantee you that "Countries of the World" will be on the list, probably near the top.
What I'm saying is that the average Jetpunker is not the same as the average person on the street, particularly when it comes to geography, and ESPECIALLY when it comes to the nations of the world.
This is so misleanding. Micronesia should be under letter M. otherwise this test is missing Federal republic of Germany and other official state names starting with F
Micronesia should not be in this quiz. This is countries beginning with 'F' ... if you're going to include Micronesia, you may as well include the Federation of Russia.
Micronesia is an independent and sovereign nation. French Guiana is not. It's a department of France, part of France in exactly the same way that Hawaii is part of the USA. If French Guiana is included, we would have to include, say, Florida as well.
What is Micronesia doing there? Doesnt make sense. Are we counting for the full official name or the name by the country is known? Because the offical name of Brazil is Federative Republic of Brazil, Germany is Federative Republic of Germany. And the list goes on Federal Republic of Nigeria, Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, etc.
I immediately thought Africa and Oceania - as a result I spent two minutes working my way through West Africa in my head, gave a passing thought to Asia and completely forgot both Finland and France.
seriously sad these days that finland is more comonly guessed than france... really tells ou what they are teching in school thhese days.... LOL i remeber when... it was tot... eveyrwhere tshis is so badc,..
Why do you think we choose to use F. S. Micronesia and not just Micronesia? Are we just stupid? Or is there some logic? Take the time to think about it and let me know.
In my opinion, the fact that there is a region called Micronesia doesn't NECESSARILY prevent any country to be called that way. It just doesn't apply to the USA with America, but that doesn't make it a rule.

French Polynesia
But I can't lie, forgot France the first time
(Ha! Beat you to it, JackintheBox!)

goshdarn tiny letters
Not going to lie, though, my Geography sucks, so I likely wouldn't have got it even when accounting for other countries xD
I must have a degree in Stoopid
• Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia
• Federal Republic of Nigeria
• Federal Republic of Somalia
• Federation of Malaysia
• Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal
• French Republic
• Federal Republic of Germany
• Federation of Saint Kitts and Nevis
• Federative Republic of Brazil
Sorry, but it simply doesn't make sense, unless it's a quiz of official countries names!
