There are a lot more countries that start with "R" if you're including "Republic of..." such as the Republic of the Marshall Islands, Republic of Palau, etc.
The Congo's are a special case though, since the "Republic of the Congo" is recognized as a separate entity from the "Democratic Republic of the Congo."
I disagree with the name Congo, Republic of the. It shouldn't be considered a name if you wouldn't refer to it like that. "Hello, I'm from Congo, Republic of the." Doesn't make any sense.
Ok. So for the milionth and definitely not the last time. Countries have official "long" names, (eg. Commonwealth of Australia) and official "short" names (eg. Australia). We commonly use the short versions, because it is easier and faster. But some countries don't have the short version of the official name, so we have to use the long version. Both Congos are an example of this, F. S. Of Micronesia is another and probaboy others, I can't remember right now.
From what I've seen. most people just use "Congo-Brazzaville" and "Congo-Kinshasa", even though they aren't official, or "DRC" for one and just "Congo" for the other. It's an easy solution, either way, both would be put under "C"
Micronesia also is totally different, because no one uses the full name colloquially, there's no other country called Micronesia, just a wider region, but that doesn't stop somewhere like South Africa.
Usually longer names are because of some other region with a similar name. The Congos are because of each other, the Dominican Republic is because of Dominica, F. S. Micronesia is because Micronesia, North Macedonia is because Macedonia, C.A.R. is because of Central Africa, etc.
For me, I always remember smaller countries first. This could be because I had to work on memorizing Rwanda but didn't have to memorize Russia. Since I already knew Russia, maybe my mind doesn't associate it with the letter R.
Hmm that republic one threw me off I got in the last few seconds. I was expecting it to start with an r? You wouldn’t include china on a list of countries that start with a p for example. I wouldn’t count ‘republic’ as exactly being the start of a country’s name
Sat there for 2 minutes trying to figure out which "Republic of the" starts with R. Then I realised that Republic starts with R, not the name itself...
There isn't a country named The Republic of Ireland. The official full name of the country is simply Ireland. The form of government is that of a republic.
The use of Republic of Ireland is simply to distinguish Ireland from Northern Ireland and has no official status.
The majority of countries exclude the word "republic" from their common names except for a few, such as Czech Republic, Dominican Republic, Central African Republic, Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Republic of the Congo. Republic of the Congo is one of these five special countries, and it starts with an R. So it is included.
Beaten it in 2 seconds. Actually tried to beat it in 1 seconds, but it seems impossible for me.
(Russia, Romania, Rwanda, Congo) That's 24 letters, in order to beat it in 1,99 seconds, one would need a typing speed of approximately 720 cpm. That's very rare, but still quite possible, though I don't want to lose my time on training it

Those don't count.
Ireland is the name of the island, Republic of Ireland is the name of the country
