This was quite confusing. One doesn't typically associate hot, arid desert countries with tropical countries since to most, tropical means hot, humid, green/jungle all over, not hot, dry and arid/desert. Even the koppen climate classification doesn't call hot deserts in the geographical tropics by any kind of "tropical" term.
The Tropics are defined as the area between the Tropic of Cancer and the Tropic of Capricorn where the sun can shine directly overhead at some point during the year. It has nothing to do with greenery.

What about Australia? How do they have less area in the tropics than Saudi Arabia. If you look on a map of Australia and you see the city of Rockhampton in Queensland, the tropics start just a little before it.
Hi Levic. The description says not the warmest, but the countries that have the most land in between the tropics of Capricorn and Cancer. There's a difference
