Yes, I know the story, but they thought it as a double album and just couldn't publish it as they wanted in 81. But since 85 or so, they have always been grouped.
Then obscure, maybe, yes, but it's their best album (along with Empires and Dance and New Gold Dream). What a band, those albums are a rare expression of true genius.
They made a 2-disc deluxe edition for the 20th anniversary, but I agree, that definitely doesn't count. And even the second disc of that is pretty much just demos and outtakes. Actually, it looks like same is true for NIN's The Downward Spiral too. Neither are double albums. Especially when there are plenty omissions from this list--Tusk, Bitches Brew, Southern Rock Opera (Drive By Truckers), The Faces I've Been (Jim Croce), The Fragile (NIN), etc.
While I understand The Clash are not exactly an obscure band, I am absolutely blown away that more people know London Calling than Goodbye Yellow Brick Road. Both are fatanstic albums.
i love that songs in the key of life is actually a double album, with an EP on the end. a standard double album wasn't enough for this guy. we'll let him off the hook though cos it is really good
