I am a football fanatic (soccer over here), but not from Britain. I can name nearly half of all the teams in the top leagues of Europe, and know a lot of premier league trivia and such, but hardly know what MLB stands for...
no worries. I live in america, can't name 5 mls teams for my life, and don't know what NBA stands for. I'm a football (soccer for the americans) fanatic, so don't worry
I really don't like football but I thought I'd give this quiz a go. Unfortunately, I only missed 5 which just shows how obsessed everyone is by this 'game' and how much it's shown everywhere.
Rant over but I now have a question- how are Swansea and Cardiff in the English Premier League? Very confused now!
If I remember right, Wales didn't have a league back when the clubs were founded, and so they joined the nearest available--England. There are other Welsh teams that play in the English Leagues as well--Wrexham and Merthyr Tydfil come to mind. I wanted to say that these teams could never represent Wales at the national level since they play in England, but I think I remember Swansea playing for Wales, so there may be a nuance I'm not aware of.
the clubs don't play for the countries, individuals do. Welsh clubs have been part of the football league from very early on. They had to fight to remain part of it when the Welsh FA wanted them to join a Welsh league -which would have had a lot less money..
@ruftytufty, yes, I was referring to competitions like the Club World Cup or the Intercontinental Cup, where a country is represented by a club, often the winner of their national league.
should have gotten most of these from playing FIFA 08 on my PS2. Unfortunately, '08 was 5 years ago and I have forgotten most of them. I always played as Stoke City because in the game, they were the worst team in the best league. Made for a nice challenge.
Norwich City @ 68% guessed. That was the first one I got after my team (Liverpool), our rivals, team we beat 5-1, team we beat 5-0, and the blue teams from Manchester and London.
Anyone interested in English Football take my quiz here http://www.jetpunk.com/user-quizzes/134559/english-cities-with-multiple-football-teams few more on my page
American here who seldom watches, and I got two. I know Manchester United from quizzes on this site, and my grandson who is obsessed with the English Premier League was here over the weekend so I watched the - I think Chelsea/Watford game with him, -but unfortunately I tried typing the latter as Waterford. Sorry, fans. I'll take the quiz again and try to do better. (But it appears that the younger generation of Americans will be more knowledgeable than their elders about the leagues.)
I was thinking you could get a few cheap points by typing in the names of a few big English cities ... but looking at it, probably only Liverpool and Newcastle would work on that front; most other teams ATM are from the smaller cities/towns, or would need further qualification (e.g. the Manchesters, and there is no team called "London..."). Birmingham, Leeds, Sheffield, Bristol, Nottingham, Bradford, etc. have no EPL teams at present
Can you name the teams that have a Belgian International in their squad? http://www.jetpunk.com/user-quizzes/133801/premier-league-teams-with-a-belgian-red-devil
Ironic Wayne Rooney is appearing in a Manchester United shirt in the picture while he has actually moved to Everton as of the Premier League season in question.
That's not how teams are referred to in Britain if there is more than team from a particular city both using the city's name: the city of Sheffield also has Sheffield Wednesday, so you have to specify which team you are referring to.
13/20, It was an embarrassment to miss Newcastle but for most others I was fine. Considering I'm from North America I feel like this is an adequate score.
I'm soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo happy to see Brighton actually doing well this year.😊 It was a surprise when Liverpool won 7-0 against Man U and then next game lost 1-0 to Bournemouth near the bottom of the league.😂
Heard that Luton won't be allowed to play any PL home games in Luton unless they either upgrade the stadium for camera positions and bigger capacity or simply build a new one. Tough ask inside 3 months!
gated. Missing cardiff would be poor
