Hollywood is a neighborhood or district of the City of Los Angeles. Hollywood is NOT an independent city, therefore Hollywood should not be accepted. Crimes in Hollywood are responded to by the Los Angeles Police Dept., not the Hollywood Police Dept. (does not exist), and definitely not the LA County Sheriff's Dept.
Not the best example, though, because having (or not having) a police department isn't a certain indicator of an independent city. Note that the adjacent West Hollywood, IS an independent incorporated city - but has agreements with LA county for some services, such as police and fire protection.
Steve, did I? If so, it was probably warranted. I don't sling around undeserved insults. And I'll happily admit to my ignorance of Harbour Bridge(s). Actually I already did that. I and the other 95+% of the world who has never heard of these structures will just have to live with your judgment of us. Except now I have heard of it.
I only knew the Harbour Bridge because my daughter studied abroad in Oz and phoned me to tell me she was sitting under the Harbour Bridge watching the fireworks during the 2000 Olympics. She jokingly asked if I could see her waving at us.
When my wrong my right? What does that mean? I openly admitted to being ignorant of something... it happens... if that's all it takes to amaze you, okay.
kalbutterbonk - in the great scheme of things, who truly cares about your ignorance, or your humble admission thereof? Given your usual tendency to pontificate at length on everything and everything, one could form the opinion that your unawareness of the Sydney Harbour Bridge might somehow imply that "If Kal don't know it, it ain't worth knowin'"
I've never heard of Harbour Bridge, but I suspect there are probably a few (just like the first Table Mountain that popped into my head was a park in the middle of nowhere Saskatchewan).
That being said, the spelling helped narrow it down to only a few cities.
I'm really not good with the picture versions of this quiz, but the two I missed - Gateway Arch and the Sagrada Familia, I would have got if there were pictures of them.
This quiz is SOOO America-centric. It's more than 9 answers. You got London, Ohio (Toronto is also in Ohio.) Athens and Rome are both in Georgia. Jerusalem is in New York state and Agra is in Kansas. Berlin is in the nicer part of New Hamphire and Moscow is in an even nicer part of Idaho. And you can visit Paris in about 20 different states. America!!
I can think of at least one more city (Tel Aviv) with a landmark called Independence Hall...It's a very non-specific name -- I bet that there are more.
San Antonio, St Louis, Philadelphia? This is entirely US-centric nonsense.
What about the iconic landmarks of Cairo, Dubai, Rio, Tokyo, Seoul, Normandy, Bangkok? I guess all these spectacular monuments are no match for a lame looking arch in St. Louis.
That being said, the spelling helped narrow it down to only a few cities.
Also, can quizmaster please accept Kobenhavn, Roma etc instead of or as well as the anglicised versions?
The same could be said about touristic interests in those landmarks and the really interesting landmarks in the world.
