had to sing my way through a lot of these. great quiz. was just listening to sgt pepper the other day and last night watched doc on George...very interesting btw if you haven't seen it.
I met George's sister Louise during a 50-year celebration of the time the Beatles took some R&R time at the Pigman ranch near the little Missouri Ozarks town of Alton. It was near the end of their first US tour, and people were going crazy because no one knew where the Beatles were for those two days. We own a few acres in the area for R&R of our own, and we attended the festival where Louise was hawking her book about the Beatles while managing her Beatles tribute band who played at the festival. She says her husband who worked in radio in the St. Louis area was instrumental in getting them airplay in the US, but she said she is the one who suggested to Epstein to get them on the Ed Sullivan show. She had some really interesting stories. (She is definitely not a fan of George's widow.) Alton, MO, population 838, is still very proud to say, "The Beatles slept here."
Hello! Please check out my quizzes, especially https://www.jetpunk.com/user-quizzes/322930/word-scramble-all-countries. I'm very unknown, so I figured this would be the best way to get noticed. Thanks for playing my quizzes!
Close your eyes and I’ll kiss you: All My Lovin’; What would you think if I sang out of tune?: With a Little Help from My Friends; Jojo was a man who thought he was a loner: Get Back; I give her all my love/That’s all I do: And I Love Her; I look at you all, see the love there that's sleeping: While My Guitar Gently Weeps; Baby's good to me, you know/She's happy as can be, you know: I Feel Fine; Ah, look at all the lonely people: Eleanor Rigby; In the town where I was born/Lived a man who sailed to sea: Yellow Submarine; Ring, my friend, I said you'd call: Doctor Robert; I was alone, I took a ride/I didn't know what I would find there: Got to Get You Into My Life; Day after day/Alone on a hill: The Fool On The Hill; How does it feel to be/One of the beautiful people: Baby, You’re a Rich Man
Apparently (as per an earlier comment by the quiz setter) the second line was only added 7 years after this quiz came out, which I think changes things.
I got Taxman instantly when I saw it... but if only the first line had been included, it would have been much harder, and I honestly don't know if I would have gotten it.
It's a great song, sure, but that first line on its own isn't super suggestive and could at first blush be from a lot of different Beatles songs.
Derived from what precisely? Leaving aside the early work (which was more or less American pop music) Rubber Soul in 1965 and everything they produced afterwards was incredibly inventive, original and set the standard for the next thirty years.
Fun quiz, thanks! I tried typing "Knowing She Would" instead of "Norwegian Wood," just to see if the supposed original title might be acceptable! It wasn't.
