Awesome - good mix of songs that I can actually appreciate as more than just gone-in-15-minutes tripe. And I love how you accept alternate musical acts for songs that were famously covered by other artists (like Tina Turner's version of Proud Mary).

Except for Peter, Paul, & Mary doing Blowin' in the Wind, which was a bigger (and better, in my opinion) hit than Dylan's original

yeah, it should accept Peter, Paul & Mary

It was in 1963, but I seriously doubt there are many listeners today who only know the PPM version without knowing the Dylan version. So it's not like Proud Mary, where the CCR and Turners versions are both heard commonly today.

Regardless of which is accepted or better known today, I much preferred Peter, Paul, and Mary's version back in the day.

I grew up listening to the PPM version on family road trips. Didn't become aware it was Dylan's until my late 20s.

It took me around 10 attempts to spell "tubthumping" correctly...

I misspelled Creedence as Credence.. (or did I? the first is underlined red right now while the latter is not)... but managed to get the answer by typing in Tina Turner.

You would have been fine if you'd gone with CCR ;)

Spellchecker went with the incorrect spelling of Credence because credence is a common word, while Creedence was a proper name - a friend of the Fogerty family, if memory serves.

Might be regional and dependant on age, But I would really think tina turner is the most famous for proud mary. (It gets tons more google hits. It was much longer and scored higher in the hitlist here than the version given in this quiz. But like I said, things might be different per country)

I do think it probably has to do with whom you grew up around. Where I grew up, we knew the Tina Turner version, but the CCR one was way more popular. They're both great.

I immediately went with the Tina Turner version and then was like oh yeah...CCR did that first.

Globally, nobody knows CCR. Tina Turner is a global icon, she has a musical about her life!

Does Tina Turner no longer work for Proud Mary? I'd say hers was largely more successful than CCR and the instructions do say "the most famous musical act" not first.

Of course, that's when taking into account both the version by Ike and Tina Turner, and the version just credited to just Tina Turner

Sad that only 25% got Jim Croce. If you've never heard his music, check it out. Pretty great stuff!

I was very disappointed that Shatner was not accepted for his cover of the "packed my bags pre-flight" song. If you haven't seen it, go YouTube it.

Good quiz, but it isn't "look at the stars, SEE how they shine for you" , it is actually "look at the stars, LOOK how they shine for you". Just a little thing.

Slight mistake on the first one - it's LOOK how they shine for you, not see how they shine for you.

I know Simon and Garfunkel are the originals, but Disturbed should also be accepted for Sound of Silence. The Youtube video has 1 billion+ views. IMO the Disturbed version is AMAZING - definitely in my top 5 songs.
