When most African countries started to gain independence from their colonial powers in 1960's, they got inspiration to their country flags from Ethiopian flag - the only country in Africa, which was not colonized at the end of 19th century. That's why there are so many flags with green, yellow and red colors.

Level 54
Feb 13, 2020
Actually, Liberia hadn't been colonized either.
+14
Level 73

Liberia was created for freed slaves from North America, that's why the flag is so similar to the United States.
+6
Level 67
May 20, 2020
The whole country is quite similar to the USA. Their capital is Monrovia (named after James Monroe) and their currency is the Liberian Dollar.

Knew only South Africa and Liberia. Gawsh, I hate flags. (Studied them and took the quiz again and scored 34.) There are some really beautiful flags here. Love Seychelles and Swaziland - I think I'll remember those next time this is featured, as well as Madagascar which now makes me think of a large island separated from the rest.

+1
Level 17
Jan 22, 2023
They're really similar, but I found out the difference.

Romania uses Cobalt blue, but Chad uses Indigo blue, so Chad's flag is a shade of blue darker.

I know it doesn't make sense though.🤷

Apparently, Chad also had the ability to change the blue to green once, but they feared it would be too similar to Mali's flag, so they chose to be Romania's identical twin (not really) instead.
