I only missed three, and it's been nearly 10 years since I studied French in college. Sweet! :)

Alt codes are super handy. Hold the alt key down while typing 0232 and then release the alt key: è. Alt+0233 = é. Here are the rest for the French language. Codes exist for just about any character.

If you've ever done any simple coding, then check out AutoHotKey, and you can not only create/customize your own key codes, but you can also use it automate a ton of other repetitive stuff.

Same here. Was able to guess some from the words - cuisiner, chanter, etc., - and just made random guesses for common verbs. But it still took me several tries to finally get them all.

I would have had them all in less than 30 seconds if I hadn't tried to first type "buy" instead of "sell" for "vendre".

Best use of my BA in French ever. :D

You mean Aimer doesn't mean to Aim, and Sortir doesn't mean to Sort? :(

I tried to use Spanish / Latin knowledge to no avail on some too. Lire sounds like Libra so I thought it would be to weigh. And Compter I would think was to buy like Spanish Comprar.

+1
Level 88
Mar 30, 2022
To aim -> Viser (I think it's related to the vision).

To sort -> Trier, classer

Lire is rather related to liber (the book), and of course library in English.

How tf do more people get the word for "smoke" than for "have"?!
+1
Level 90
Mar 31, 2022
In my case it's because I'm more familiar with Spanish. In Spanish "to smoke" is fumar, so that one was easy to guess. However, "to have" is tener, not similar enough to the French word to be a clue for me.

Level 46

Woohoo I got them all without a single French lesson! Some guesswork and my basic Spanish knowledge got me through. I want to learn French but the pronunciation is lost on me. Apparently reading it is much easier because when I hear it spoken I can't pick up a single word lol
+1
Level 70

I loved going to Spanish from French. "You mean, I actually pronounce everything I see written?" French is kind of like learning to play the violin --- beginners tend to sound pretty awful, but it gets better with practice.
