I lived in Wellington for five years without ever knowing it was named after Napoleon's nemesis. It took a guy in Seattle, decades later, to let me know.
As a Swiss, I doubt that our government actively promoted Fondue to increase cheese sales (or do you have a source?). Fondue is brilliant, we don't need promotion to eat it.
I’m also Swiss and thought that was common knowledge. But it’s also on the fondue Wikipedia. “Fondue was popularized as a Swiss national dish by the Swiss Cheese Union (Schweizerische Käseunion) in the 1930s as a way of increasing cheese consumption. The Swiss Cheese Union also created pseudo-regional recipes as part of the "spiritual defence of Switzerland".[17][18] After World War II rationing ended, the Swiss Cheese Union continued its marketing campaign, sending fondue sets to military regiments and event organizers across Switzerland. Fondue is now a symbol of Swiss unity.[17]”
I absolutely love swiss cheese. Fondue? Not so much. This could also be me not wanting to overpay restaurants for food that I "cook" myself. When I'm paying that much for fondue, I don't want to do the "work" myself. Fondue is quite the gambit here in the US.
this needs to be updated. Girls at the age of 12 or 13 also have Bar Mitzvahs, although they are called Bat Mitzvahs. Both variations should be accepted.
Not sure about the Swiss unity bit lol
