White bear is commonly used for Polar Bear. In fact, it is Polar in English mainly, and White in most other languages. Should be accepted as an answer.
Never heard white bear used personally, is it actually common?, or just in certain regions? Of course if it is only used colloquially besides an official polar bear, I (as a non-native English speaker) am less likely to have heard the term. (Then again I do know a lot of other colloquialisms. The question is I guess, what would David Attenborough say :))
