tons yes, everything no. And not always in the same order of popularity (thing that were extremely popular there might have hardly gotten exposure here, and other stuff might have gotten a decent amount of exposure, but was hardly noticed there)
In the U.S. a lot of people have registered (area code plus) 867-5309 as their "phone number" for all of those so-called drugstore and grocery store discounts that you get for being in some kind of club. I often use that number instead of the old phone number I used to use.
American, in my 30s. I know the song, but could not get Jenny. I just remember that you were supposed to call that number “for a good time”. And that it was supposedly the police chief’s (or was it mayor’s?) daughter’s number.
Boxing Day is a holiday observed in the Commonwealth of Nations (formerly known as the British Commonwealth) not in "British countries", as you wrote it. I suspect that Indians, Kenyans, Canadians, etc. would all object to being called British, but they all celebrate Boxing Day! Now I am not sure if every single last Commonwealth country clebrates it or just "most" of them, but to make it even more confusing, Hong Kong, for instance, observes Boxing Day, but is not a member of the Commonwealth! It would take some more research to make sure the wording is perfectly accurate, but it's clear it cannot stay the way it is. May I suggest the following very broad phrasing: "What holiday is celebrated on December 26th in the UK and many former British colonies?" ...or something. :-)
How strange. Here's a typical recipe. It calls for 3 whole avocados and just 1 teaspoon of garlic. Not the ideal recipe for repelling vampires, but probably has a better taste overall.
I just meant, I use a lottt of garlic. Volumewise, avocados obviously are the bigger ingredient. Whereas my previous comment was meant as a joke eventhough by volume there is more avocado, I still consider the garlic to be main, it makes the dish.
it definitely is not 3 avocados vs 1 teaspoon for me (wth, a teaspoon of garlic?? that is the weirdest thing I have ever heard haha, I get all sorts of weird images now, melted garic etc) I use more like 2 cloves per avocado. (depending on sizes, if it is a small avocado and a big clove, could be 1) For 3 avocados, you would get half a bulb atleast. I estimate a teaspoon is half a clove. you would need a microscope for that haha. Or a scentdog to find the garlic in the guacamole :P
Sometimes making guacamole takes too much time, so i just put 1 avocado and 1 garlic clove on my bread, with some salt (and pepper). sometimes just half an avocado (and sometimes a little cheese added) yum
I've just listened to the Jenny song on Youtube. Never heard it before in my life. Nor had I heard of Tommy Tutone before today. According to Wikipedia nothing he ever released made it into the British charts...
Boxing Day is the best: its like a day to recover from the stress of Christmas Day and everyone is too full and lazy to come over and bother you, leaving you to enjoy your selection boxes, left over turkey and special Christmas cheeses in peace.
Unfortunately I knew the phone number, seeing as I had her name. The jokes about the phone number and then Forrest Gump have followed me throughout my life. Believe me, it's only barely funny the first time. I refuse to listen to either the song or watch that movie
That seems to be a question that non Americans have no chance with. Judging by the low % who have got it, quite a few Americans struggle too.
I've always used the White House (202) 456-1414 or information (area code) 555-1212
A popular song from 1982.
