after seeing the answer 'Happy Birthday', it seems kind of obvious, but for the life of me I couldn't figure it out a happy answer from 'How old are you'. :P

That one took me a while. I thought there was some weird answer for not saying how old you are. Then I just tried "birthday" whatsoever.

Happy Holidays is absolutely not a politically correct way of saying "Merry Christmas." Maybe you're saying that tongue-in-cheek, but it's not accurate in a historic context or today.

Feel free to read up on the origins and evolution of the phrase in a ton of places, even dictionary.com.

"Happy Holidays," in its current context, is just a way to wish someone well when a) you know they are not Christian and do not celebrate Christmas or b) they're a stranger and you have no context for what their beliefs might be. It is simply a way to be kind and inclusive.

It's toxic to pretend that acknowledging non-Christians is an assault on Christianity. It's messed up to dismiss basic decency as mere political correctness.

I would change the clue to something as simple as "A generic winter holiday greeting."

I thought it was more of a reference to the fact that there are multiple winter holidays/festivals across different religions, not just Christmas.

If somebody says "Happy Chanukah", "Eid Mubarak", or something like that to me I wouldn't be bothered by it as it's not like that somehow forces their beliefs on me.

I can be tolerant of their views so why can't they be that way of mine? So I'm not going to avoid saying Merry Christmas and I guarantee you I'm far from the only one.

I would argue that "Happy Holidays" is not the politically correct way to say "Merry Christmas." It's used as a benison when you don't know another's religious practices/beliefs.

I agree, 'Happy Holidays' isn't another way of saying 'Merry Christmas,' it's just a phrase that celebrates other winter holidays too. Not everyone knows what everyone else's religion is, after all :)
