Even better... Mom says What does IDK, LY, and TTYL mean/
Kid: I don't know, love you, talk to you later. Mom: Okay, I'll ask your sister. Or there was a lady who posted on Facebook: My father just died today. LOL. Another person said: What on earth? It's not funny! She says: No, it's not. What do you mean? They say: Well, you said LOL. That means Laugh Out Loud. She said: What? I thought it meant Lots Of Love!
that is literally so funny. hahahaah! kids these days... they just wont get it!! haha... makes me glad to have grown up when i did... but mann.... things sure have changed. kids these days... they dont even drink out of hoses.... sheesh... im getting old....
I thought "jk" was the short form of "joke" or "joking". Anyway, the people behind some of these comments don't know this isn't supposed to include only and all the easy ones.
5 years later with many more hours online, the only one I missed was PHAT. This and EOM are the abbreviations which I still haven't seen being used, but I got the latter one by guessing.
I use btw. (And in my own language in textmessages also idd for inderdaad (indeed, which would also fit), an iig for in ieder geval (for sure/in any case/anway/definitely) because they are so long. Ow yea and sometimes wth.
I am old. The AIM ones I got. The rest, not so much. FTW--F*** the World? ASL--American Sign Language? BBW--Better Be Wary? (PS, do not Google this last one.)
It's because PHAT isn't an internet acronym. Phat is slang for a woman being attractive, first used in the 1970's. It is similar to how "bad" was used to mean "good" in the 80's and 90's. Pretty hot and tempting is a backronym for phat.
Same i have heard of phat (not at all occured to me connecting it to the one in this quiz) but only on a few occasions by people that were trying to be cool and thought it was just a variation of fat.
true story (happened to think about it just this week): at college there was a band playing in the hall of the school and everyone was sitting on the floor. Suddenly I can hear from behind me "i can see your fat silhouette.." that really hurt and the comment haunted me for weeks (I think i immediately went to the bathroom and put a sweater on, i had on something tight, which i usually dont, so was allready very selfaware). I thought why would you go out of your way to offend and hurt someone. It was not like we were face to face talking (which would still be rude but less sociopath...). Years later i thought, maybe he meant it in a good way. I am still not certain..
I've only seen it used to express "for the win." Never seen it your way. .... but how do we really know since you could swap these two phrases all the time and nobody would know.
I got them all, acronyms are is one of those stupid things I'm really good at remembering. I'm not up on memes, though. Everyone making the same or similar jokes with the same picture, which tend to be progressively less funny.
I'll posit that peak meme was reached almost immediately with I Can Has Cheezburger, and then it just went downhill as everyone got computer savvy enough to make their own memes.
Oh the days of 'ASL' on MSN chat rooms.... When it took 20 minutes to dial up via modem and you get an hour before it disconnects you (unless someone picked up the phone.)
They were the days... When after that hour, we'd go outside and play blocky, Kirby or football with other kids from the street. Non of this internet gaming malarki!
I'm not that young but dang listening to some of you guys not know all these acronyms is making me feel very young.. Some of you sound like a grumpy old man when someone walks in their yard. It's not lazy to try and write a text, a post or a msg and to want it to be as quick and concise as possible
Quiz would be better if some of the less known ones were removed and more modern ones put there. SMH, IKR, IYKYK (perhaps on the more profane side, stfu, wth, af, and wtf) are much more used than some other ones, some of which i've never seen actually used (IM, ASL, IM, PHAT, OTOH, EOM). even OMG or OMW would be better than those imo. lmao also. DM is much better than IM. Also FR (for real). maybe even GOAT. but none of those other ones, unused. Also ty and tysm
We buy your car even if you dont buy ours
Interesting.
Friend: What does IDK mean?
Me: I don't know.
Friend: You don't know either? Hmmm.
hahahahaha!

NSFW should probably be in there though
