Mexico should also be accepted for Mexico City. The name of the city is Mexico. Or Mexico Distrito Federal (Mexico, DF). It's only called "Mexico City" by gringos to help them differentiate. Similarly, the name of Kuwait City is Al Kuwayt. Kuwait should be accepted. Same for Guatemala. And Panama. And Cebu. And Quezon. And New York.
Absolutely agree! is very annoying having to type City after Mexico, Panama, Guatemala and so on when this is just a title and the proper name does not included.
I think as long as quizzes accept New York for New York City, Kuwait City, Mexico City, Panama City and so forth should all be accepted. In very few if any quizzes is it necessary to differentiate between the country/state and the city in question. Besides, no one suggests we should say Sao Paulo city to distinguish from Sao Paulo state.
well, now the default for JetPunk is to accept all of those. Only a couple of odd ones left out like Kansas City, Oklahoma City, and a few other American ones which are never used without the "city" so I think that's fine.
The Government of Kuwait states there are 1.3 million Kuwaitis. On top of this, however, there are almost 3 million expats living in Kuwait. Given that the overwhelming majority of these live in Kuwait City, that figure seems about right.
The boundaries of every empire ends at the Indian subcontinent- Greek, Persian, Ummayad, Mongol. Only the British managed to colonise through sly trade and administrative policies. And the Delhi Sultanate and Mughals never controlled every part of India at the same time. Because of the huge Hindu population, they had to be liberal to rule peacefully. (Although atrocities and xenophobic laws were there)
The Indian kingdoms of the time seemed to have had enormous armies along with sizeable elephant cavalry (which are really not fun to go against in war). Also, Alexander's army was pretty tired and homesick by the time he finished conquering modern-day Pakistan. Not surprisingly, they mutinied when they heard of facing an even more intimidating enemy than the Persians.
Once you remember that a particular country made up part of his empire then this quiz goes from panicking that you only know just over half the answers to becoming relatively easy.... phew..
Funny though, that the most that I know about Alexander comes from a german sci-fi book series about an immortal alien who got caught on earth about 10000 years ago and then accompanies human civilisation trough the millennia...
I did this quiz straight after 'Modern Countries Conquered by Alexander the Great'. Amman is listed in this one, but Jordan is not listed in that one. Confusing...
