Fun quiz. I love odd holidays. What about May Day? In parts of the Heartland, May 1 is a big day for delivering May baskets. Another fun holiday is Hobbit day (Sept. 22, which is Bilbo and Frodo's birthday).

I don't think May Day is obscure enough. It's been celebrated for thousands of years and is a public holiday in many countries (including the U.K. and India).
Level 82

It's also many different things to different people. A day celebrating Spring, started by ancient pagans who celebrated by staging orgies and fertility rituals and dancing around phalluses (the May pole); a worker's or Communist holiday (huge in China for this reason); an environmentalist holiday; and also my birthday.

It's a big deal here in Hawaii. My daughter's school had a big hula performance.

I've heard it called No-meat monday more often. Not that I celebrate it myself (they make decent arguments about the health benefits, but... bacon).
Level 91
Mar 14, 2014
I love your counterargument to the health benefits of going meatless. Yeah, but... bacon. Love it.

Real bacon is serious business. That sliced ham they call bacon in Canada's okay as ham and eggs, but real bacon is the base of the nutrition pyramid.

I've heard it this way more often as well, and what I tried. I still did rather poorly anyway, so I wasn't too disappointed when I saw the answer..
Level 57

Cycle to Work should be accepted.
Level 82
Mar 14, 2014
I'd never heard of this holiday before but was able to guess the name.
Level 57
Mar 14, 2014
Me neither, I guessed Cycle to Work and that was not accepted, so I assumed it was not close.

I know Devil's Night as Mischief Night, I'm from Philadelphia by the way, don't know if that has anything to do with it.
Level 82
Mar 14, 2014
I think it does. It's called different names in some other cities.
Level 57
Mar 14, 2014
Yea, I kept trying Mischief Night too - South Jersey girl style :)
Level 60

Would like to see Juneteenth on a quiz somewhere. Days Moosefight Celebrates perhaps.
Level 85

Only 4% got Buy-Nothing-Day? Thought the hint made it rather obvious? -- I like those lesser holidays, 14 March, 4 May, 19 Sept.. and so on :) Towel day is great too! And there's a "eat orange junk food" day. Except that it's name is something I can't remember now..
Level 70

I almost typed buy nothing, but that felt more like a description than a name, so didt try it.
Level 85
Jun 16, 2015
Had never heard of Sweetest Day or Mole Day; like others have always heard Devil's Night called Mischief Night. Disappointed Guy Fawkes Day was overlooked.
Level 83
Aug 23, 2015
I'm pretty sure it's Burns NIGHT not Burns Day.
Level 62

I knew that the ironic lonely version of Valentine's Day was something to do with singles, but just typing in that didn't work. Next I tried "sad"... and that worked for Singles Awareness Day. Amazing. On another note, it should be Burns Night (far more common, since it's a supper thing). Also, please accept "Meat-free" and "Cycle to Work", which are what I've heard them called in Australia.
Level 52
Jul 10, 2016
Not familiar with "singles awareness day"; I kept thinking of Galentine's day, but I think that's Feb 13th.
