Looking from the outside, all of this is quite ridiculous. Why do you even need to pick one team? Especially as some had great careers with 2 teams. Just list all he's played for and that's it.
Well the plaque kinda needs them to have a cap because that's how people picture baseball players. And it's lame to have a blank cap (although several players--Greg Maddux, Roy Halladay, and Fred McGriff, to name a few--have chosen that). I think the overwhelming majority of players have only one team with which they're really associated, so it's not a big enough problem to warrant changing the system. The plaques look better with the team logo on the cap, and fans want to see their favorite players wearing their teams' caps.
I know it’s not the team he played for the most but Randy Johnson won 4 Cy Young Awards in a row for the Diamondbacks, he only won 1 for the Mariners. In his Hall of Fame plaque he has a Diamondbacks hat on. He should be included for the Diamondbacks, the Mariners would still have players that work for them.
