Ehhhh. "Small, tightly-rolled tortilla, stuffed and fried" in Mexico isn't "Taquito"; it's either a "Taco dorado" ('golden taco', due to their color after fried) or a "Flauta" ('flute', in spanish). We use "Taquito" to refer normal tacos in an "affectionate" way.

Si...it is flauta

Yup, flauta is definitely the more authentic name for this thing. Also, in Spanish, the singular of "tamales" is "tamal". And you should accept "mezcal" for the tequila answer because mezcal is liquor made from agave, whereas tequila is a *specific kind* of mezcal made from a particular cultivar of blue agave from a certain region, kinda like how cognac is a kind of brandy.

I tried mescal first.

Tequila is liquor made from blue agave specifically, while mezcal is made from a different kind of agave, maguey. Maybe the question could specify blue agave?

I also support accepting "tamal," as the proper Spanish singular of tamales.

Could you also accept "nachoes"? I thought a word ending in a vowel would always get an -es plural, but with this word borrowed from Spanish that's not so!

mole means sauce (like guacamole is guaca=avocado + mole=sauce). the more correct answer for "sauce made with chilis and chocolate" would be "mole poblano"

Salsa means sauce. Moles are chilis plus various solids ground up and added to a broth. Mole de olla, for example is a soup.

Tripe is disgusting. The surest way ever to ruin a good bowl of Pho. :P

Sep 16, 2014
Tripe is really good in soup, especially in menudo and pho, but that's just my opinion. If you don't like tripe, try pozole. It's like menudo with the hominy and all, but it doesn't have tripe...usually it has pork.

No chilaquiles or migas for "Breakfast eggs served on tortillas"?

I thought Migas as well for that one. Huevos Rancheros, to me, has to have a "ranchero sauce" component.

No Ceviche is originally from Peru... Therefore Ceviche is not Mexican.. I'm sure Mexicans make Pizza and Burgers their way but doesn't make it Mexican.

Couldn't remember the Spanish word for rice. I couldn't get "abriz" out of my head, which apparently isn't a Spanish word at all. Probably got it mixed up with "abril".
