Well St Kitts has one billionaire and Monaco has three, hence some zany numbers. But I wonder with the oil-rich Middle East states being absent, has some info been concealed from Wikipedia?
Not really true. There are a lot of sheikhs and emirs. Tens of thousands of princes in Saudi Arabia, for instance. Most of them are not billionaires. If the wealth were more concentrated than it is then no doubt Qatar, Saudi, Bahrain, the UAE and Oman would all make the cut. But the money isn't in the hands of individuals so much as families.
Interesting about the money of the oil states being in the hands of families. I was really expecting Qatar, UAE and Bahrain to be well up the list for sure.
Brunei? According to Wikipedia: "The Sultan has been ranked among the wealthiest individuals in the world; Forbes estimated the Sultan's total peak net worth at US$20 billion in 2008." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hassanal_Bolkiah
Good point. In that case I think it's a matter of it just being an estimate. Oftentimes the true wealth of monarchs and oligarchs isn't really known and they might not be factored in to the Wikipedia rankings. For instance some people say Vladimir Putin is actually the wealthiest man in the world, but nobody really knows.
Also often the oil money is in some sort of sovereign fund, which might be in practice controlled by very few people (or just one), but probably doesn't count.
It should also be considered that the Arabian peninsula states have very low percentages of citizens among their populations. Since this quiz revolves around citizenship, I'd assume that most of them would be on here, if only the true information were available.
I have no issue with us giving aid to Israel. They are one of the true democracies in the middle east and aren't using the money to fund terrorism. Considering that Israel was in 1948, they have made it an oasis in the desert and should be commended.
"they have made it an oasis in the desert" tell that to the 2 million Gazans living under a continuous blockade that has gone on for nearly two decades lol
Some people have never lived around conflict and war and it really shows. I mean, good for them for not having to live through that, but it makes their opinions completely useless.
It amuses me how quickly I can rattle off country names in quizzes like this that I don't know the answers to; but in the 1 minute sprint challenge I mishit the keyboard, spell incorrectly, and generally just mess it up
With the latest info from the wiki billionaires page it looks like Denmark (6), Ireland (6) and Liechtenstein (4) will all make the cut with a ratio well above 1.0.
I think Liechtenstein might be wrong. Liechtenstein has a population of 37,000 and 1 Billionaire. So shouldn't the number of billionaires per million people be about 27?
Where exactly is the data from? Wikipedia stages it is from Forbes, but Forbes 400's poorest member has 1.7 million. Wikipedia doesn't currently list St Kitts, while web search suggests Belize and St Lucia also have one each.
Even with the same sources, Brunei's monarch is considered to be a billionaire. With a population of 417.000, this would clearly put them on this list (2.39). Any reason the monarch would be excluded?
It goes by current citizenship, not origin or residence. Like a Lebanese is now Monegasque, a Norwegian is Cypriot and a North Dakotan renounced US citizenship and got one from St Kitts, not residing there however.
He was born in South Africa. But he lives in America and is now American. Also Canadian. He's got triple citizenship. However I think the important detail here is that his permanent residence is in the United States.
Not only is it little surprising to see many foreign names on this list, aka people that just move there to keep their money tax-free but I'm also ashamed to see my own country here.
I wonder what percentage Barbados would be at without the names included. I got most of the others but I never would’ve guessed it otherwise - plus the disparity between the % guessed and St Kitts is so high I feel like that has to be a huge factor.
Total Israeli GDP in 2013: 290 billion USD.
An amazing 1%. Yeah, they're totally funding Israel.
St. Kitts and Nevis has ONE Billionaire, right ?
