Don't worry, that's about as good as I did the first time taking the english version of this test. It's hard to think of what words are most common in general.
I got 61, which doesn't seem too bad for a non-speaker--I had Spanish in high school, but was never fluent and haven't used it at all in the dozen or so years since then.
I'm not very good at these. I did rather poorly at the English version too. The problem with the most common words is you use them so unthinkingly. I was kicking myself when I saw the obvious ones I'd missed.
Two years late on this one, but it's probably because all these studies about the most common words base themselves on written texts (most of them not written in such a way that you could address someone directly by saying "Hello"). It would be interesting to see what different words could come up if you were to make this study with the most spoken words in a language (I don't know how you could measure that, but it would be really cool).
No sombrero, cerveza, tequila, fajjito, queso, ok I'll stop, now Im hungry...
The most guessed are one and two letter words. That is a good reflections of how I did. Most were random guesses and happy accidents... (at one point just tries two letter combos.. bo bi ba be, lo, li la le...)
surprisingly how low nada is btw, One of the words many people DO know even if they dont really know spanish. That is nearly the only word I know (besides the ones written above, food(stuff) that hails from spanish speaking countries) ) also know si, nina, yo, that about it...
Though if i see it written I can guess a lot since I do know a little bit of french, so if there is an resemblence I can guess. but not if i have to produce the spanish myself
Step two: get 40%
Step three: see all answers
Step four: Smack your head for 1 hour
If you followed these steps... you are human.
