So did your source divide the names by gender, or did you? Because I was sure than not only had Jordan very firmly crossed over into unisex territory, but had kept right on going and was now much more commonly a female name.

Stop and think how many Jims you know personally. I bet it's at least 3. And if you have 300 people that you know personally that's 1%. I keep my Facebook trimmed to only people i know well, so i have 137 friends...of those 5 are named Jim or James. That's 3.6%.

It should...along with other spellings, John, Jack and Jonathon are just variants of the same name

The acceptance of nicknames seems inconsistent. What makes "John" and "Jonathan" separate entries, whereas "Jim" and "James" count for the same entry? Why does "Jackie" give credit for "Jacqueline", but "Jess" doesn't for "Jessica"?
+1
Level 37
Mar 8, 2024
"John" is not a nickname for "Jonathan", but "Jon" gets you to the latter. "Jess" could work for "Jessica" or "Jesse", so it would have to be omitted as a nickname to avoid triggering both names.

But several hundred thousand people named "Jamie" who are not using as a nickname for "James"? That was perhaps the biggest surprise.
