Augh, I kept trying every other English synonym for "kaiser" but never thought of emperor. King, caesar, ruler, czar, tsar....I haven't seen "The Last Emperor" so it wasn't apparent to me that way.
"AG" can stand for several concepts, the most frequent ones are "Arbeitsgruppe", which can be translated as study group, working group, team or task force, or "Arbeitsgemeinschaft", which is almost the same, or "Aktiengesellschaft", which is corporation, stock corporation or public company, take your pick. You left this comment several years ago, but finally you got an answer. As we say in German: "Besser spät als nie", late is better than never.
Thank you, Frau Müller, for pounding the German into my head. Now if you had just taught me Swiss German I might have been able to, you know, talk to people in the other part of the country, but oh well.
Swiss German is like some deep south hillbilly or Scottish highland variety of English, nearly unintelligible if you only speak the "standard" variety of the language. I mean, I *am* German and I hardly understand a thing they say.
Good fun, as I don't speak German I found it fun to try and translate the titles. For Der Herr der Ringe: Die Gefahrten I tried ...... The Cook, the Thief, His Wife & Her Lover....... well I tried my best.
love it - only missed All about Eve because I've never heard of it, I tried all sorts e.g. Evita, something about Mary. Wish I had just done it literally!
I nominate Im Westen Nichts Neues, the original German title for All Quiet On the Western Front. It meant "Nothing New in the West", which aside from the daily report of nothing new to add to the usual butchery also meant a neverending story of war in Western Europe. It doesn't translate directly, but is a very famous and profoundly influential German work. The movie adaptations were American and British.
I was impressed with myself for getting one answer that was a movie I'd never heard of, just by trying to translate from the German. Then I was much less impressed with myself when I saw the correct answers for the three I missed.
I tried monster university... (and maybe monster high) didnt remember the other title. And I Thought I had tried diamonds are forever, but could been diamonds was still in singular since before that I tried the literal diamondfever
THis is fun, do more!!
