No, they're from Dublin. Perhaps you're thinking of Van Morrison? He's from Belfast.

Adam Clayton and The Edge were both born in England, so U2 are half English. Anni-Frid Lyngstad is Norweigan, so Abba are 3/4 Swedish.

they were raised in Ireland, though. The Edge moved there as an infant, and Adam when he was 5. And the band is considered from Ireland

if you go by birthplace then ac/dc would be UK as they were born in Scotland. this is actuall by country when they were formed.

Bands are always off where they were based not born. Nobody claims Cliff Richard is Indian or that Queen were a part Tanzanian band.

I think Fela Kuti appears on a quiz somewhere. The % guessed is in low single digits

I would get Rabeh Sager, Mohammed Abdu, Miriam Fares, and Haifa Wehbe... but only because I lived in Saudi Arabia for six years. Probably never would have heard of them otherwise.

Lang Lang would be a good choice for China. He's quite famous (he even performed "One" with Metallica!) and he was born and raised in China. I also agree Psy would be a good choice for South Korea.

Lang Lang, Ravi Shankar and Sibelius and Mozart really are in the wrong mix here. They should all be together in a musicians quiz, same for Pavarotti he really fits great voices not pop music.

It's Erykah Badu. She's American who they've already got covered in this quiz. This suggests you've heard a name and just decided the person must be African. It's not even her real name.

To add an African country, you could add Youssou N'Dour for Senegal. His song 7 Seconds is known all around the world.

I'm proud I got Jean Sibelius. I only got it because we played Finlandia in orchestra this year, and we did the version by him. Interesting how the song was written, then used for the national anthem later.

The "version" by him?? Since he wrote the piece, do you mean the original orchestral score (as opposed to the "hymn" part at the end?

Maybe you could use Falco instead of Mozart for Austria? Since Mozart was a classical composer and all the other acts are more or less modern music.

Define "modern music."

I think the OP is referring to pop music -- vocals, verse/chorus structure, songs generally running from 2:00-7:00 in length, active in the last 60 years.

Although Jean Sibelius is a classical composer as well

Jean Sibelius, though a "classical" composer in the loosest sense, is fairly modern. He lived until 1957.

I think the 'Edge' has got welsh connections. I saw U2 in Cardiff National Stadium many years ago and I remember Bono saying before the show started that the Edges' father always wanted his son to play at Cardiff but didn't think it would be in band. Then the edge kicked a rugby ball into the crowd.

Some additional representation for Asian acts would be cool. The most obvious is South Korea, where there's Psy and BTS, but there must be moderately well known acts for other Asian countries..
