Why? I would argue that he wrote better music than all the rest of them (with the possible exception of Bob Dylan) and surely the original creator of the music deserves more kudos than the performer?
Yes he was a curveball, except for people trying to appear clever or elitist. I got full marks by the way but given Wagner has no mainstream media presence (visually and sonically), he was the last one I got.
I agree it was a curve ball. It's not that he wasn't a great composer. It's just that it isn't a picture that you see every day (or ever). Even if you know the music you probably haven't seen his picture often enough to recognize him immediately. I know I certainly haven't . I would probably recognize Beethoven though - from the bust on Schroeder's piano. For the Sia picture, I did try Cousin Itt in drag.
I agree. I know Wagner's music pretty well, but I don't think I've ever seen a photo of him. I would recognize Beethoven, Bach, Brahms, Tchaikovsky, Mozart...and that's probably it. I am familiar with the work of lots of other composers but I could never identify them by picture.
I agree that Wagner is a curveball. I got him not because I recognized the picture, but because I know these quizzes always have one pre-20th century composer and I just started randomly guessing the ones that hadn't been used yet.
However, I will also agree with CardinalSin that Wagner wrote better music than anyone else in this quiz.
Years ago my phone rang and when I answered, a voice said, "Hello, ____, how are you? Do you know who this is?" I said, " I don't know, but it sounds like Garth Brooks." He laughed and said, "It is." My daughter had seen him play baseball in a spring training game, and afterwards had stood at the end of the autograph line. Instead of his autograph she asked if he would phone her mother and say hello. He agreed and called me on her phone. We chatted for a couple of minutes, and I learned he has a brother living in our region. He was super nice. Garth is all about his fans and I'm sorry more people didn't recognize him on this quiz.
This is an awesome story. Garth played minor-league baseball for my New York Mets! (Tim Tebow is currently in our minor league system too. Perhaps there is a trend...)
That must be a very touched up photo of Wagner. He died in the 1880s and the quality of the photo looks like it was taken in the 1920s if not later. Still got him but I my brain didn't want to make the final connection because it could figure out how he time traveled.
Those are mostly outdoor pictures. Older photos of the outdoors don't look much different from modern black and white film stock photographs. Indoor photos from the pre 1900s are significantly grainier, have exaggerated shadowing, auras around the foreground images and uneven background color tones.
It looks like this was updated and featured again. As I went through the quiz I thought to myself, that's way too modern of a picture to be Wagner but dammit it's him or John Wayne's father. Scrolled down the comments to see if someone had something about it and apparently I had 6 years ago. I did a google search for him to see what other photos of him there are and as I said in my first comment, "It appears that the photo has been touched up. Here is what I assume to be the original.
Well, I really wish they'd thrown in Yoko Ono. That would've been a bean ball over that curve ball everyone was talking about. It certainly would've broken up the quiz.
Well, I'm one of the 9% who did not guess Justin Bieber, something of which I am very proud. I was looking at his picture thinking: 'Who is this git?'. Maybe 'Git' could be accepted as a type in, with adjectival variations before it; such as Enormous, Monumental, Smug and Untalented.
Funny, I got all the ones which are guessed by less than 50% of people, except Kendrick Lamar (who is guessed by 48% today), but I failed on six others, some of them being guessed by up to 88%. Result: 3/5 points
However, I will also agree with CardinalSin that Wagner wrote better music than anyone else in this quiz.
I thought maybe it was Joey Ramone when he got tired of punk all sounding the same.

Thanks
Had to cheat and read the comments for Lamar (I haven't a clue who that is).
I resent the 21st century for making me know who Pitbull is.
