I got 8 from random guessing. The 1 that I actually knew is the one with the lowest percentage... Charlie Ward... I think he was big back when my sister was still at FSU and my dad was big time into college football. Otherwise I'd have no clue who he was, either.
and the only other answer on here that I knew won the Heisman was OJ Simpson, missed that one.. should have picked him up just with the random guessing of last names. But I didn't.
The NCAA has nothing to do with the Heisman Trophy, only the Downtown Athletic Club can take away the Heisman Trophy since it is their organization that gives the trophy out and NOT the NCAA. That is also why they have their own ceremony and not associated with all the other trophies given out to college athletes.
He won the award. He may have returned it but he still was handed the trophy during the ceremony that year. We can't retroactively change history. Even if we wanted to, I would start somewhere else. There are people who did much worse things than Reggie Bush, such as the 1968 winner.
The last time someone besides a QB or running back won was in 1997. I know those are two key positions, but I have a hard time believing the best player in the country played one of those two positions for twenty years straight.
Ndamukong Suh was the best college football player in the country in 2009. And it wasn't.....even.....close. He should have won the Heisman unanimously. College Football corruption at its finest.
College football has obviously changed dramatically from the "good old days" - to think that no colleges other than Ohio St and Notre Dame had more Heisman trophy winners than Army, Navy and my alma mater Yale for the first 40 years that the trophy was awarded. And it wasn't until 2004-5 (USC) that any college other than Army and Yale had consecutive (different) winners.
There's no place like Oklahome State . . . because it's not a place ;)
Also a little odd that Florida State is "Florida State" for Winston, "Florida St" for Weinke, and "FSU" for Ward. Apparently you can't win the Heisman at Florida State unless your name starts with W!
It's surprising how few of these guys end up in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Among the winners from 1989–2014, only one of them is a likely Hall of Famer.
Newton? I don't see it. What's he done since SB 50? Ten years in and he's hot garbage. Ten years in, and Ken Anderson was League MVP.
Newton's cowardice in not going after a virtually uncontested fumble in the Super Bowl, where if he doesn't get that ball, his team is finished, should permanently disqualify him from HOF consideration. That was the most gutless play in NFL history, IMO. He's always ready for where the cameras are, but he wasn't prepared to simply fall on a loose ball, even though he's just as big as almost everybody else on the field.
Jeaux Cool. In his first FULL season, he's already led the Bengals to their 1st playoff win in more than 30 years. He's the real deal, IMO. If they can keep him healthy, he's going to have Cincinnati in the Super Bowl conversation for as long as he's in tiger stripes.
