Denver Nuggets? Ha ha ha. I'm not from the US and I would have to say that is the funniest name for a team... where I'm from if you call someone a nugget it's because they are short and stocky (very un-basketball player like) or it's another name for poo!
This quiz to be updated next year as the New Orleans Hornets will change their name to New Orleans Pelicans! And the Charlotte Bobcats will be named the Charlotte Hornets!
The Charlotte Hornets moved to New Orleans and lived life as the New Orleans Hornets for a number of years before switching names to the Pelicans. The Charlotte Bobcats were a new franchise that popped up after the Hornets left. When the New Orleans franchise changed names, it opened up the ability for the Bobcats to switch names to the Hornets. So, much like the Cleveland Browns circa 1999, these are two completely different franchises that end up being named exactly the same thing.
I got all but four. Not even an NBA fan these days - most of what I know comes from playing NBA Jam as a kid. It's newer ones like the Thunder and Pelicans that trip me up, though I also forgot the Cavs and 76ers.
I'm European and I was able to name all the basketball teams of the NBA, with 1 minute left. Don't really follow the NBA, but I just love sports, haha!
"Sixers" is accepted for 76ers. "Knicks" is accepted for Knickerbockers. "Blazers" is accepted for Trailblazers. "Mavs" is accepted for Mavericks. "Cavs" is accepted for Cavaliers. and finally, "Wolves" is accepted for Timberwolves. so, HectorVortac, several nicknames are in fact accepted for several entries on this quiz. "TWolves" should probably also be accepted.
7/30 - Yes, I'm an American. Would you believe some of us just don't like the NBA? ;) Living in NE Ohio, of course I got Cleveland and King James - they'd probably throw me out if I didn't. LOL
gonna be entirely honest: the only one I could actually name off the top of my head was the Wizards (I'm by DC I guess? I don't watch sports so idk) and the other 21 I got were from the comments. Thanks, friends :-)
Just kidding. They're named after gold nuggets that were found in the West.
And a college near me with the mascot 'Geoducks'. As in the clam. Pronounced 'gooey ducks'.
I guess this shows how much more I enjoy football (not soccer) than basketball.

All right
The way NBA teams move and change names (bring back the Bullets), it's hard not to get a name stuck in your head (Buffalo Braves).
