I know Demeter more as the goddest of harvest. Maybe add that hint. Also,God of the seas will do instead of Lord. And apollo is just right for me. No need for Helios. He is the old god.
Mercury, Vulcan and Vejovis aren't Roman names of course. They are the English names of the characters who the Romans knew as Mercurius, Vulcanus and Veiovis. Possibly there are more English names in this quiz.
Well obviously iuppiter, iuno, and I think it would be iuventus. Cant see any other of which I know is not written in the original form. But maybe I missed some.
Hm....is there any leeway on spelling for Heracles? I tried Hericles and Herecles, then started trying French spellings because I was desperate. I don't know why I didn't think to use an "a" though. Also, I suppose "Faun" wouldn't work for Faunus because faun is a general name for the half goat/half man creatures? Or is that not the case? When "faun" didn't work, I tried "Mr. Tumnus"...
lol @tumnus, I tried faun too, hadnt actually heard of faunus (or forgot about it). (I think I thought ( used to think, it has been a long while since I thougth about mythology) faun was the type of creature and Pan was the god. So that Pan was "a" faun.
or maybe some stories are rewritten over and over. Most people probably dont know there are several myths/stories/sagas whatever you want to call them about great floods well before the story of noah. And if it were books written today, people would ve been sued for plagiarism... wayyyyyy too many similarities... not that many originality in religions. In some cases because certain things are logical to arrive to independently (like the worship of the sun) but in other cases stories were literally rehashed. Change the name slightly to sound more local, and adapt it more to your time and society and voila, perfect recipe for "new" gods.
Thank you, D'Aulaires' Book of Greek myths. No thank you, Percy Jackson, which looking back on it is unoriginal, heavily influenced by the Harry Potter books, and poorly written, not to mention often used cookie-cutter plots that far oversimplified the actual myths, which were once full of intrigue, mystery, and anti-heroes in their dozens. You've ruined Greek mythos for millions of people, and they'll never understand the true depth of the subject. Rick Riordan, you are evil in its purest form.
They were never meant to be adaptations of the myths, just CHILDREN'S books written for CHILDREN set in a world where the myths were all real. Of course they simplified things! The original stories contain a lot of gruesome murder, violence and sex!
They got millions of kids, including many people who took this quiz judging by the comments, into learning more about Greek mythology. And most importantly, they got millions of kids into reading, because they were funny, engaging to younger readers, and inspired further learning.
You sound like a snob who hates that they aren't special anymore for knowing this stuff, and you could really use some series self-reflection on why you rely on knowing things others don't to feel good about yourself.
I totally disagree. First, harry potter never crossed my mind (and didnt even know percy jackson came after). I think it has led many kids to mythology that otherwise would never have given a crap. And the people that were allready interested in mythology will not be changed by it.
one point is that certain misconceptions can arise. Atleast the audience know they are gods. Many mythological names ( often the more obscure ones) are used for video games, and there are millions and millions of kids that know certain names only from videogames and have no clue where it actually comes from and the backstory. That I dó find a sad thing.
Please change the clue for Demeter/Ceres. She is the goddess of fertility of the earth, not people... so please be more specific or change the clue to goddess of agriculture. Eileithyia/Ilithyia is the Greek goddess of PEOPLE fertility, and Lucina is her Roman name. Otherwise, fun quiz! 100%, so easy for me! I read so many mythology books.
really? it is a pretty well known word and not some obscure russian or asian little town with an unpronounceable name. You wouldnt ask for jaysus or jisus or something to be accepted.
Pluto and Bacchus aren't Roman gods. They're the Romanized version of Greek names or titles for Hades and Dionysus. The native Roman god of the underworld was called Dis and Liber was their god of wine.
Excuse me? Apollo is the god of archery, music, prophecy, healing, diseases, the Sun and light, poetry, and more. How the heck do you just put him as "God of light"??? Are you kidding me? I knew all the twelve Olympians before taking this quiz so i was able to fill in Apollo but he is not just the god of light! Impossible to guess.
I got all of the Greek gods but forgot about half of the roman counterparts. If it weren't for growing up with percy jackson i wouldn't remember any tbh
100% in 3:17 - phew! Got a lot of them from watching the Disney movie 'Hercules', and also from an ongoing love of reading massive books about the Greeks and Romans! Makes me sound like a nerd but it definitely helps :-) Got stuck on 'Minerva' and then remembered Professor McGonagall from Harry Potter!
To Percy Jackson!!
Hephaistos!
In the creators notes:
"Ganymede was also a cupbearer to the gods, but never considered an Olympian"
ecce! vino bene!
where did he get hes idea from?

Also, had to google the spelling of Asclepius.
But Hebe's main job was still not being a cupbearer, so I think the definition is misleading. She was mainly the goddess of youth.
