Agreed. It's a terrible name. Whether they are good or not is irrelevant. Adding a color modifier to an already perfectly normal team name makes it sound like a college team. Knights is good enough...in fact, Vegas Knights is an awesome name with a double meaning. Sticking "Golden" on there is just dumb.
I managed to get 19/30 despite knowing nothing about hockey and not being able to name a single hockey team. Think this is the best I've ever done on a sports quiz by far haha.
No, they don't, but I still got the answer. We were sitting around a bonfire on Halloween and we heard coyotes coming toward us. My cats were getting really nervous, so as a joke I threw back my head and gave a long howl. The pack immediately turned and ran the other way and we never heard them again the rest of the evening. So, coyotes don't howl at the moon, but humans can howl at coyotes.
I know nothing about hockey and kept throwing basketball teams in (Timberwolves, Grizzlies---I know nothing about basketball, either). Still got 21, tho.
"Black power" really isn't a good clue, since the logo never had a black panther in it. It' was always a regular tan one (that looks more like a cougar, to be honest). I think the fact that it is the least guessed answer havevsomething to do with it.
Maybe the reason it looks like a cougar is because panther is another name for cougar. Wildcat, mountain lion, puma, cougar, panther - all the same critter that goes by different names in different regions.
No, you're talking about "black panther". Just panther can mean many things: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Panther The clue is fine though, it's a clue, not a definition.
I think the fact that the Black Panthers (the political group), which the clue alludes to, dissolved almost 40 years ago may have a lot to do with it. I think most folks nowadays think of big cats rather than political activists when they hear the term "Black Panthers" - younger folks at least.
Yeah, I didn't make the connection at all. I only got it because (it was the last one and) I had to spend an extra minute mentally going through all the NHL teams in my head, trying to figure out which one was missing. When I finally realized it was the Panthers, I stared at it for another minute trying to figure out how the clue related before finally going, "Ohhhhhhhh.... ok. I guess so."
(And I'm, like, 43. So not exactly a spring chicken myself. It's not like I don't know what the Black Panthers were; rather just that it's not the first connection my neurons make.)
"Golden Knights" has gotta be the worst name for a sports team that has ever existed, with the possible exception of the Henderson Silver Knights. Which is the same people's fault.
I don't understand why teams pick names with two words. Everyone just shortens it to the second word. Pretty much since their inception, they've been called "the Knights," which is a perfectly fine name. Props to the Devil Rays for realizing this themselves and just dropping "Devil" from the name. Mighty Ducks dropped the "Mighty" too. Even the Maple Leafs, which are named after their national symbol, are usually just called "the Leafs." I can understand older teams who are stuck with their names, but for a brand new team to do it just seems dumb.
The Arizona Coyotes were relocated to Salt Lake City. It happened pretty quickly so a team name hasn't been picked yet. For the 2024-25 season, the team will be known as Utah Hockey Club.
