95. I got all NFL teams quickly and spent too much time trying to figure out the last MLB team, so I only got about half the of NHL and NBA teams. I could have sworn I typed the Astros!!
122/122 I had one baseball team left with one minute to go, so I decided to go in alphabetical order with major cities. With 31 seconds left, I got to Kansas City and remembered the Royals were a team.
Never seen this before on any other quiz, but for some reason, it does not accept the answer if you put a space in the middle of "Black Hawks". Doing the reverse (i.e. not putting a space in "redsox") is fine, though.
Normally that would never happen, but this quiz has some special code to prevent "Reds" from filling in when a user types "Red Sox". "Black Hawks" will work now, even though its wrong. :)
I've taken this quiz a bunch of times, it's so awesome! My record is 5:15 left. I think the one I'm the best with is baseball. I always knew all the MLB teams. Great quiz!
Got 'em all w/ about 4 minutes to spare......My brothers would say, "Not bad......for a girl." LOL - that's what happens when you grow up in a house full of males, always watching sports!! :)
After doing this quiz once every day for 2 months, I finally did it. Can get baseball and football in my sleep, basketball requires some effort, but hockey trips me up. Finally remembered all those Canadian teams.
Could you please fix the alphabetical order? I realize the current Winnipeg Jets used to be the Atlanta Thrashers, but it is misleading to keep them in Atlanta's spot. Same thing goes for Phoenix/Arizona Coyotes, and Florida/Miami Marlins.
115/122 = 95% - 2 points out of 5. Seems very unworth my times aha. But since people like to know, Englishman here, only ones I missed were baseball teams, got all of the NHL, MLB and NFL teams, being able to associate each with the appropriate town/ city would be a different story though!
The latter. I'm able to name all of the countries now, but I'm still clueless when it comes to locating them (other than continent) or naming capitals. Capitals are my next goal...but 92/122 is really only a C, so two points does sound adequate.
Yes. I only missed the Canucks in the NHL (lifelong hockey fan). But they are relatively unknown. The highest for a unique team name in the NHL (sorry Panthers, Jets, and Kings) is 66% for Pittsburgh Penguins.
Why the emphasis on the word team? Did you think hockey was an individual sport? Or do they call groups of people who collaborate during a hockey game something other than a team where you are from?
now that they are choosing their team, they actually have players and they have started making trades and whatnot, I think it makes sense that they are there
Until the MLS grows in size/revenue/cultural prominence to change the "Big Four" sports leagues into the "Big Five," MLS will be relegated to its own quiz on Jetpunk.
The MLS is nowhere close to these four leagues in popularity. Yes, I know about the average attendance, but I've been to a handful of Chicago Fire games. It's largely families, school trips, camp trips, etc. Tickets are cheap and the games are family-friendly. Most people there seem to be more interested in a day out than in getting invested in soccer. Feels very much like a minor league baseball game. The best metrics are revenue and television viewership, in which case all four of these leagues absolutely dwarf the MLS. Does MLS even have a television deal? What are they on, ESPN 7?
That bothered me, too....and I wasn't going to say anything. But as long as you've brought it up, MLB would look much better along with NFL, NBA & NHL. Plus, Major League by itself is really pretty meaningless without the word Baseball. After all, every team here is a major league team in its respective sport.
Whalers moved in 1997 and become the Carolina Hurricanes, SuperSonics moved in 2008 and become the Oklahoma City Thunder, North Stars moved in 1993 and become the Dallas Stars.
Thanks. My dad used to work part time for the Washington Capitals and I went to a lot of games back then. I probably could have named all the teams in the NHL pretty easily back then, even though I rarely was interested in the games and spent most of my time out in the corridor where they had video arcade games. But that was over 30 years ago.
You should allow "Toronto Maple Leaves" and "Maple Leaves" for Toronto Maple Leafs, just because that's proper grammar. (I notice that you do allow "Fliers" for Flyers, why not extend that?)
Would be interesting to understand how people go about completing this. My method is to first name all NFL teams, by division, as I can remember them easily. Then I go to all Canadian teams starting with the NHL and adding the NBA and MLB teams from Toronto. Then I go by US city, starting in the northeast down through Florida, back up through TN, IN, OH, MI, IL, WI. Then back down through MO, OK, TX, then over to AZ, up through NV, CO, UT, WA then down to OR and CA.
No, the Quizmaster is just being proactive. Once MLS dies due to lack of interest, he would then have to go back and remake the quiz without it. This way just saves him some time down the road. Then again, after reading some of the comments above, hockey doesn't seem to get a lot of love, either. Maybe it should go, too!
MLS isn't dying. There were over twenty-six million people watching last year, a four percent increase from 2016. Meanwhile, the NFL, NBA, MLB, and NHL are all either down or saw very little change. MLS is, in fact, likely to make its way on to this list soon, and hence, the really proactive decision would be to add it on already.
I think it's more because it's not really a major league. It doesn't have the talent level of other soccer/football leagues and is, in almost every way, a minor league.
MLS just isn't on the same level as big-time sports like (american if your overly specific) football, baseball, and hockey. Soccer is more of a sport that's used internationally, which is where it gains popularity. In america its not very big.
I'm trying to figure out how the New York Giants can be 90% guessed correctly but the San Francisco Giants are only 89%. If you type in "Giants" that covers them both. Do some people actually type in the full names, including cities?
At current rates sometime between 2030 and never. Until the MLS can attract actual world class talent it's just a minor league. Also, what you even type? United, FC, Real? What kind of dumb teams names are those? D.C. United? There were never two DC teams. Real Salt Lake? Was it sponsored by the King of Spain or something? It's aping the European leagues without any history or context.
If I could have an extra minute I could get 100% every time. It's pretty rushed at 123 answers (4.88 seconds per answer; I usually give people 5 or 6), and we're adding another hockey team in Seattle. Maybe up it to 12:00?
The Washington Football Team has officially left the previous Redskins name. I understand if "Redskins" is still to be accepted since it happened quite recently. Please change the answer to "Washington Football Team" as well as accept "Washington Football", "Washington Football Team", and possibly other variations as you see fit.
Why is Quizmaster still not acknowledging that the MLS has more average attendance than both NBA and NHL?
If you wanted to make a quiz with only the so-called "big four", then make that instead of a quiz about big North American teams, because like it or not, the MLS is is a big North American sports league.
Comparing attendance between a sport played in outdoor stadiums vs. two sports played in indoor arenas is not a fair comparison. Revenue is the most relevant stat to estimate total interest people have in a league, and MLS's revenue is less than a quarter of that of the NHL (which is in turn has only 60% of the revenue of the NBA).
Aren't the Indians the Guardians now? Also if the MLS isn't going to be added it should probably be clarified that "Major League" is referring to the MLB and not the MLS.
I'm sure this quiz will be reset at some point in the next year or two (Washington Football Team could be the earliest cause of that), so I just want to leave a note to my future self that I was able to get a perfect score today.
The CFL (Canadian Football League) should be on this quiz, its a professional league in North America, so there is no reason why it shouldn't be on here. Its very popular in Canada (obviously) and some americans also watch it.
same with astros and fills in A's
I SYCKKKKKKKK
SUCK SUCK SUCK
SUCK SUCK SUCKL
SUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK
Or possibly you understand how the average person feels when they see their score on the countries of the world quiz.
2. You’re not wrong, the MLS is a farmer’s league.
(It's not like I looked at the comments and saw what people missed so I could put them in as another team or anything)..........

GO EAGLES!!!!
Maybe we'll make it past the fisrt round next season (:
