100%, from the USA. Listened to a lot of hockey games on the radio growing up. Canadians are always impressed that I can sing their national anthem and name their prime minister (even if they often cringe when I say his name).
hahaha, i guess it wasn't just me who had trouble with the "with glowing hearts we see the rise" line. i think that's the part where it usually flips over to french, so i couldn't quite remember it
Don't feel too bad, I only know the first line of the American anthem and that's still more than i know of any other country in the world outside of Canada.
We have real issues to solve in this country, and this wasn't one of them. Not a fan of Trudeau's crusade for political correctness, and for the sake of "peoplekind" I hope he sticks closer to his campain promises from now on...
Oh, wonderful. You changed the quiz to match the gramatically nonsensical "in all of us command" update. Get ready to change it again when we elect someone who speaks English.
I almost aced this one thanks to Rush with Terrance and Phillip on the South Park movie. I didn't know that the "all thy sons" line had recently been changed. Political correctness is pure insanity. I guess time will tell if the Star Spangled Banner in the US will be edited, changed, or just banned outright as hate speech.
Do countries use national anthems at anything but sporting events? In the US, you never hear the national anthem anywhere else. You hear other patriotic songs places (especially "God Bless America"), but the anthem is pretty much only in sports.
Who else typed in "O", "Canada" and then a bunch of common English conjunctions, pronouns, "be" forms and articles? Maybe "land" and "king" or "queen".
Their "own" ? You know there are other nationalities on the site, not just Canadians. And people take all sorts of quizzes, not just the ones that are about their own country.
Either way, I don't think it is something to get so upset about, unless you are joking. In which case.. I still don't think it is something to get so upset about :)
I'm going to blame how long this took me on the French/English mashup that they always played at school. Still can't sing it without switching languages.
As an American from the South who doesn't watch hockey, I'm proud to say that this is still possible. Also, I know this is correct, but why did they change in from "...in all thy sons command?"
Not sure why the government changed in all thy son's command to "in all of us command" instead of in all of our command.
But then again we're unfortunately led by someone who thinks people should say "peoplekind" instead of mankind when the "man" in mankind refers to humans not men.
Didn't have a that good score even if I am Canadian, because I only know the version in french and english. I do not know half of the english-only version...
O Canada!
The original. And more stirring than the translation.
everyone whining about the "gender-neutral PC garbage" clearly doesn't realize the original anthem (1908) was already gender-neutral (and also had no religious mentions)...
get mad about something that actually matters? or at least develop an informed opinion lol
gender-neutral PC garbage benefits absolutely nobody and offends millions for the sake of appealling to a bunch of communists with zero popular support
I live in Southern Canada, AKA Minnesota. Growing up around hockey and watching countless games with my uncle has made this song engrained in my memory.
I knew absolutely nothing, though I had a sneaky suspicion "o" and "canada" might be there ;) Managed to get 16. Not bad. Though I really should have tried free (thought I did) and and..
I am American and learned this in my church's hymnal.
Though i should know more, given that i live in Minnesota and that one of my life dreams is to move to Canada...
Sorry Canada...
Finally threw in a few "thy"s and "thee"s.
Everything they say about Americans (ok, me) is true.
Either way, I don't think it is something to get so upset about, unless you are joking. In which case.. I still don't think it is something to get so upset about :)

Great prairies spread and lordly rivers flow,
How dear to us thy broad domain,
From East to Western sea!
Thou land of hope for all who toil!
Thou True North, strong and free!
(Refrain)
O Canada! Beneath thy shining skies
May stalwart sons and gentle maidens rise,
To keep thee steadfast through the years
From East to Western sea,
Our own beloved native land,
Our True North, strong and free!
(Refrain)
Ruler Supreme, Who hearest humble prayer,
Hold our dominion within Thy loving care.
Help us to find, O God, in Thee
A lasting, rich reward,
As waiting for the Better Day,
We ever stand on guard.
(Refrain)
yay i guess
