He made the fact that he was always the host but never a nominee a running gag. "Welcome to the Academy Awards, or, as it's known at my house, Passover."
Jimmy Kimmel? Seems an odd choice. He's fine, but I don't think his brand of humor will play well at the Oscars. Maybe the producers wanted something a little more conventional after Chris Rock last year.
Agreed. After he burned the house down at the Golden Globes a couple years ago, I don't think the Oscars would touch him with a 100 mile pole. But it WOULD be hilarious.
I was watching in the early ‘70s when David Niven was hosting. It was during the streaking craze, and while David was doing his thing onstage, a naked streaker came across the stage. David, looking very calm and not missing a beat said something like, “Well, it was bound to happen…” then he finished his comment with, “ …probably the only laugh that man will ever get in his life is by stripping off and showing his shortcomings.” Even though it was a live event, they still managed to blur the camera footage we saw on the TV.
I feel like the quiz should be updated to reflect the official list on the oscars website: There was no offical host in 1948, and there was only one official host in 1932, Conrad Nagel.
Of course, the "official list" is merely a news article posted directly on oscars.org on January 22, 2024 so it doesn't show the hosts of the hosts of the 96th or 97th Academy Awards (2024 & 2025 Oscars)
If they had Ricky Gervais host, I might watch.
Might have angered a few folks.
Good luck.
