Barack Obama is originally from Hawaii, but lived in and represented Illinois in later life. Lincoln came from Kentucky, but represented Illinois. Those two are unfair questions when you have to choose between their birth state and home state.
I was actually worried that this quiz would be laden with traps, but those are really the only two trick questions, and I think they are fair: Barack Obama's birth place was (however disgracefully) a subject of much discussion, so the fact that he was born in Hawaii came up quite a bit during his presidency. Lincoln's early life in a log cabin is also commonly known and although I think his birth place is the trickiest on this quiz, his whole life is the subject of much study, so if you're going to pick one person for a truly tricky question, he's a good candidate.
There are a couple of other tricky ones, like Elvis (born in Mississippi, but famously lived on the Graceland estate in Tennessee) and Babe Ruth (born in Maryland, but most famously played ball for the New York Yankees and, before them, the Boston Red Sox.)
If you think that's bad, we've also got Nevada, Washington, Louisiana, and California, Missouri. There's also a Texas County, MO.
Not to mention the country names for Missouri towns like Mexico and Cuba, or other major city names like Paris, Memphis, New London, New Boston, Philadelphia, etc.
Wow...i did WAY better than i thought. Only missed Babe Ruth. I thought that New York was the trick answer because people would associate him with the Yankees and forget that he was traded from the Red Sox, so i went Massachusetts.
Once again the gaping void in my knowledge that is sports (American sports particularly, but really most sports) got in my way. Got everyone right except for the sportsmen.
