thank you to the White Stripes for Blackpool, Yellowknife and Whitehorse. DVDs, Under Blackpool Lights and Under Great White Northern Lights both awesome!
I don't think the Gold Coast is any more a region of West Africa than the Slave Coast or the Grain Coast. An archaic European name, but no more, I think.
That's how my mind went. Do I know a black forest? I do know a Schwarzwald (which in my head instantly translates to black forest. So I "say" the one word but think the other). Things get weird when you think in 3 languages at once haha.
It's a great place to visit, very picturesque, with good skiing and hiking, and beautiful lakes. Also, I'm not a fan of chocolate cakes, but Schwarzwälder Kirschtorte (black forest cake) is to die for!
Thank you, Betty Crocker, for giving me Gold Coast. I received a recipe card library for a wedding gift in the 1970s, and the first recipe I tried was Gold Coast stew from the international section. It was awful, and it became a family joke that has continued for over 43 years, - for example, "Kids, if you don't behave, your mom will make you eat Gold Coast stew." (I think I should have skipped the part that said to blend 3/4 c. peanut butter with a can of tomato paste. The chili powder and nutmeg didn't really help, either.)
Possibly because there are other rivers which flow from Ethiopia to Sudan, like the Dinder and Tekeze. The confluence of the Blue and White Nile rivers is at Khartoum.
