I think this quiz would be a bit more interesting if you were to compare their GDP per capita today to their GDP per capita in 1990 and how that relates to Western Europe or other communist countries over the same period. As it is, this data just feels a bit out of context here--okay, so these countries are rich now, but what made them rich? Is it that communism helped them become rich? Or is the fact they abandoned communism what allowed them to become rich? Even before the collapse of communism, Eastern European countries were richer than most African and Asian countries, so it's not as though this is a radical break from historical trends. Sorry if this is a rambling comment, it's a good quiz, I'm just saying a little context would be nice.
It's a quiz site. Why do you want it to be a research site?
The quiz is perfectly fine just like hundreds of other quizzes here which either seem outdated or without context. Because at the end of the day, it's all about guessing what the data is, rather than guessing why that data is the way it is.
Easy, it is the abandonment of communism that made them richer. In the 80s and early 90s those countries were in a miserable state mostly. The difference between the west and CEE is much smaller today than 30 years ago.
Leaving communism did not make them richer. Implementing far too many reforms and, eventually, transitioning to a capitalist state once again was the cause of their economic downturn. Don't be fooled by simplistic explanations only to start acting like someone unknowningly experiencing Donning-Krueger effect
My friend, that is simply wrong. I live here, compared to what my parents, grandparents had back in their days, it is way better. They had no options in stores -eg one type of bread, on type of salami etc, they were only allowed to travel abroad once for every 3-5 years, with limited cash to bring(or they would flee and settle down). The state had to take loans to fund the government and the whole country, so people would not see how bad the standard of living is. Communism was a big lie, and since these countries left it and joined the EU as well, they have been catching up to western states. Only nostalgia about ones youth can make them say those were better days, every statistic and horror sotry tells us about the opposite...
