I've said it once and I'll say it again: putting ridiculously easy quizzes like this on the front page takes that opportunity of being featured away from other, more deserving quizzes.
For someone who doesn't have extensive knowledge of geography, this may be difficult. I'm not speaking for myself, just saying. Laugh all you want, but there are people who think Europe is a country and so on...
I've pulled up some of these easier quizzes for my grandkids. I like that I can find a few simpler ones and they can challenge each other on the time. Not everyone is a geography geek - gotta start somewhere!
Agreed, but quizzes like this, with a 100% average, is taking "easy" to silly extremes. I feel like a baseballer swinging my bat at a volleyball, an archer two metres from the target, a highjumper leaping over a row of matchboxes. How about introducing a new scoring system to reflect the challenge values of quizzes, because 5 points for this quiz is so nuts, and so cheap, I just can't bear to do it. Here's my scoring suggestion: You currently give out 5, 4, 3, 2 and 1 for getting the 100th, 80th, 65th, 50th and 25% percentile. How about, while keeping that basic structure, giving a MAXIMUM of 5, 4, 3, 2 and 1 points for where 0-20, 20-35, 35-50, 50-75 and 75-100% respectively get every question right? Have appropriate scale-downs below the maximums (eg for a 3-point-max quiz, it would be 3 for 100th percentile, 2 for 80th percentile, 1 for 65th percentile, and 0 for anything lesser)?
So what? I like to sometimes do these quizzes with my 6 year old daughter. This is just one more that I can take with her. If you feel the quiz is "beneath you" just don't take it.
Easy quizzes are fine. But giving 5 points for easy quizzes, where almost everyone is getting them all correct, doesn't make sense. I'd welcome your opinion on the scoring suggestion above, which takes into account quizzes that are so easy virtually everyone is getting 100%. (You are incorrect to say that I think this quiz is "beneath" me. I don't.)
Wait...you are taking these quizzes for the points? You mean, the points that don't matter? There isn't even a "top 100" list to see how you compare to anyone else. As far as you know, you have the most points on the site. I thought you were taking the quizzes...you know...for fun.
As far as I know, it's DollarBill, plattitude, sillie, you (buck), kalbahamut, then Jerry. I agree that quizzes should be taken for fun, also, but I kinda think Jerry's trying to say that he takes the quizzes for fun (why else would he be on the site for almost 2 years now?), but a new point system should be incorporated, so people who work hard to get all answers at quizzes like this one are not treated with the same points as someone who got all correct on this quiz.
Quizzer6794, I doubt anyone knows all the 403 Dutch municipalities by heart, even when merely guessing them. The only way to get even half of those is to cheat.
I've never paid attention to the levels, until Quizzer listed the top 6 as far as he (she?) is aware. Not sure where I was in relation to those same folks in Dec, but I'll admit I wasn't disappointed to see I'm right in the thick of them as of now. Better add this to my resume!
Just for the heck of it, I have done some figuring regarding points and levels on JetPunk. As of today (3-23-16) there are 3,911 featured quizzes. So if you take every quiz and get a perfect score on them all you will have 19,555 points, good enough for level 74. Not important in the scheme of things, but it was fun to figure it out! And to those of you with a score of 74 I will now bow down before you... for I do not have the patience to master the Countries of the world in Spanish, French and German, or memorize the name of every school in the NCAA basketball tournament, or to learn the names of every character ever mentioned in Harry Potter!!!
Look, we are all used to harder quizzes than the average person can ace. If we gave this quiz to an average person, they might be able to complete it, yes, maybe even without the map. But there are a LOT of younger people who are willing to take quizzes on this website. And they can't learn if they only get harder quizzes that only older people can take. These kinds of quizzes are helpful to the younger JetPunk population, which is a good thing. If this quiz is too easy, remember that there are DEFINITELY quizzes that match your skill level on this website!
Wow this quiz has been featured for a whole day, and not a single "Oceania/Australia" gripe nor a comment about "North and South America are one continent." I'm sure that will change if/when this hits the front page! Not to mention the arbitrary socio-political division of Eurasia!!! ;)
What about Arfrickuh, Asjyia, Yuhruphe, Nurth Amahrikkahh, Suuth Amahrikkahh, Aauhhstrahlyija/Oshijanyja, Ahntahrkktikkahh and of course of forgot Attlanthijs !!!!!!
Oceania is quite clearly more of a region than Australasia. There is a fair and convincing argument to be made that New Guinea and Australia share a continent. But does Fiji share a continent with Australia? Does Tuvalu? By no definition I can think of, and yet Oceania typically includes all those places.
Hahaha! I love it with all these english speakers arguing about what a "continent" is. Do like us Swedes, keep it between "världsdelar" and "kontinenter". (;
What is the problem with some of you quiztakers, if you want more difficult quizzes there are plenty in jetpunk, stop whingeing and cut out the "Too much time' ....whinge ......... whinge", just because you can type quickly does not mean you are cleverer or wiser or anything else, you just become part of a whingeing mob.
i feel bad for the 1% who didn't get africa, europe, and asia. also for the 2% who didnt get the americas and oceania for the 4% and antarctica the 7%. antarctica was actually discovered after uranus. Uranus:1780. Antarctica:1820. dont believe me? look it up.
Yea not really, eventhough that is what it says. (Bugs me everytime i see it btw) if 100 people take a test and 90 got all of them right (and 10 dont) then all of those 90 people will get the you ve beaten 100% while in fact they have only beaten 10%.
you could just aswell say you ve been beaten by 90%, cause you didnt get a better score than them. If equalling means beating someone, you been beaten by a lot of people.
i guess it would be bad for the egos when getting a quiz 100% and then hearing you only beat 10% or something. I can envision the chaos and the tantrums now. So eventhough it is wrong, one has beaten others when they score exactly the same. I can see quizmasters reasoning now. You got to keep them content
Nothing wrong with someone posting an easy quiz that kids could take and hope to complete in time. Not everything here has to be difficult. Complaining about it just makes you sound bitter and jealous that a quiz was featured when one of yours wasn't. Buck up, sissypants!
All the people complaining about points on this quiz annoy me. Isn't it nice to take a break every once in a while and still be able to raise your level while doing so? It's not like 90% of featured quizzes are this easy. Think about the people who are less skilled at geography on this geography-centric site. Don't they deserve the same amount of points we get for a quiz they might find challenging? Or should we make them feel worse because they only got 100% on a "one point quiz?"
It's not. It's just a chain of islands. It's part of the region of Oceania, but a region is different from a continent. Australia is the continent itself, while New Zealand, Fiji, Tonga, etc. are just islands that are grouped with it for convenience.
In a simple point of view, if you distinguish Asia and Europe and North America with South America, you're only dealing with political continents, therefore you should use Oceania only.
If you speak about geological continents you'll have only Eurasia and one America and indeed in English Australia.
(And if you speak acording to the Olympic Comitee you have 5 continents with America, Europe, Asia, Africa and Oceania).
...yes, just like Europe, Asia, and Africa are just as much one continent because they are part of the same landmass. Or at least Europe and Asia are because the only seperation is some mountains and straits, instead of actual ocean.
North and South America should be considered one continent, as should Europe and Asia. We could name the first continent America and the latter Eurasia. Memorizing the names of seven continents is far too much information for the human mind to absorb and regurgitate on command.
Well, you could make the distinction that the Suez canal counts as a continent boundary because it's a complete cut through the land at sea level, while the Panama "canal" is mostly a big lake at around 85 feet elevation.
Quizmaster! Australia as a continent term only contains the countries of Australia, Papua New Guinea, and portions of Indonesia.[1] However, Oceania refers to the geographical region that includes the countries mentioned previously, as well as New Zealand and all of other the micronations and island-countries in the pacific.[2] Because you included these other island nations as part of the continent of Australia in this quiz, you are incorrect. National Geographic, Google, the World Atlas, and many other sites disagree with your choice. Put Oceania in brackets or remove the micronations and island-countries as part of the continent of Australia because that is WRONG!
I think the border between Eurasia is wayyy to far East. It is a straight line going South to the Black Sea and North to the Arctic and it passes through the Eastern most part of Ukraine
2. Does not accept 'Andardikuh' for Antarctica.
3. Way too much time allowed. I would recommend 7 seconds.
4. Pangaea covers all of them.
lol
It is Australasia!
i got 48 seconds left

I don't mind accepting Australia but these actual names should be allowed as well.

The places in the original version of the board game "Monopoly" were inspired by Atlantic City, New Jersey.
I got this as my "interesting fact" but it's incorrect. Monopoly was inspired by London.
Please fix these simple mistakes Quizmaster
Africa - Roman province
Asia - Alternative name for Persia found in Herodotus
Europe - Europa, mythological Queen of Crete.
Oceania - Only continent linked by oceans. Australia came from Latin meaning "southern."
North and South America - Named after explorer Amerigo Vespucci
This quiz is so easy I thought that I'd teach you something!
