The whole hexagon, pentagon stuff is so much easier in German.

Dreieck, Viereck, Fünfeck, Sechseck, Siebeneck, Achteck...

You just put the number and eck and there you go. :D

It makes sense if you know the prefixes, as hexa=6, penta=5, etc. Just like naming structures in chemistry.

That's only because we colliqually call a tetragon, a "square". But a tetragon would make sense.

You should accept alpha for the Fish one. It is just a slightly more stretched version of the same symbol.

So, I get every other symbol and reach the caduceus, which I have only ever seen on the signs of pharmacies and other medical organizations. I spent the better part of three minutes trying every possible variation of the words medicine and pharmacy. Only after the quiz do I discover that the caduceus erroneously takes the place of the Rod of Asclepius on 76% of commercial healthcare organizations in the United States.
+2
Level 58
Nov 19, 2014
Ironically, the caduceus was traditionaly used to represent merchants, among other things.
+2
Level 69
Aug 18, 2016
Yeah, not accepting "medicine", "medical", "doctor", "physician", "medic" (all of which I tried), etc., doesn't really make any sense, since the other accepted answers for the more abstracted symbols are what the symbol *represents*, not what the symbol *is*.
+4
Level 82
Oct 4, 2017
It does not represent medicine, it represents commerce. Stupid commercial healthcare organizations use it because they are stupid. Most doctors and professional medical associations use the correct symbol, the Rod of Asclepius.
+1
Level 69
Sep 9, 2018
Ah, I gotcha! I didn't even know the difference between the caduceus and the Rod of Asclepius for the exact reason you said, Walacama: in the US there is SUCH widespread misuse of the caduceus, that the Rod of Asclepius – the CORRECT symbol for medical uses – looks completely unfamiliar to me! I'm going to start Twitter-shaming places like those 24-hour urgent care chains who are misusing the caduceus on their web sites. Thanks for the education, Quizmaster and commenters!!

That infinity symbol isn't called that but called the lemniscate. The lemniscate is used as a symbol for infinity. At the very least, the word "lemniscate" should be accepted as an answer also.

Fun quiz. I think polyhedron should be accepted for the last one, though. The shape depicted IS a polyhedron, and it's difficult to tell exactly how many sides it has by looking at the two dimensional photo.
+1
Level 62
Apr 22, 2018
Nah. If you were to accept polyhedron, you would also have to accept polygon for hexagon, octagon, and trapezoid.
+1
Level 49
Jun 13, 2018
true but if Jesus fish is accepted for Ichthys then simpler names should be put for the more difficult ones for example I put female for the Venus Symbol so I think POLYHEDRON should be acceptable yet I didn't make the quiz so all I can give are suggestions

Ichthys stands for Jesus, though. It takes the first couple of letters from each word in Jesus Christ Son of God (or something like that) in Greek.

I thought it was Hammer and Scythe. Isn't a scythe the same thing?

Also I put Red Crescent, thinking you meant the equivalent of the Red Cross. If you just want crescent could you change the colour please?

+1
Level 66
Nov 6, 2018
Agreed. I tried "Hammer and Scythe" and couldn't figure out why it wasn't accepted. It should be IMO. (I guess they're slightly different tools, but still...)
+2
Level 74
Nov 6, 2018
Scythe is long handled and less curved?
+3
Level 78
Apr 18, 2019
Yep. A scythe is used with both hands to cut high stalks of grass or crop. A sickle is a hand-tool used to cut smaller plants and twigs.

"Red Crescent" not accepted? You don't call the Red Cross just Cross, do you?
+1
Level 72
Apr 18, 2019
A crescent is a crescent. Apparently reading your and one other comment there is something called specifically red crescent, but that is not the only crescent out there. (Like heart is probably used for many things, the symbol is still a heart though)
+1
Level 78
Apr 18, 2019
But if only a crescent is asked for, it should have a neutral color. They are not typically displayed in red, unlike a heart. So, if it IS red, it should be called a red crescent.

I'm not religious by any means, but I am shocked to see how few people got the Jesus fish. I tried, "fish," and when that didn't work, typed "Jesus." Maybe it's so low because the user didn't allow "Jesus fish" as an answer for quite some time.
