Iron Giant was good but not as good as some made it out to be. Not Brad Bird's best work IMO. Good enough to make it on my top 100 animated movies quiz, though.

I hate to nitpick, but the Iron Age isn't considered prehistoric since writing (and thus the historical era) was invented before the iron smelting.

I often go for Iron Working before Writing because revealing iron on the map is useful for figuring out ideal placement for early settlers.

Civilization, one of the greatest things since sliced bread. Oh, Sid Meier, you have our eternal gratitude. Not to be confused with Civony(or Evony), which is one of the worst things since... um... never mind.

Had no idea that was a nickname of Cromwell's, but Americans who have been to Boston might get it since the U.S.S. Constitution is a well-known tourist attraction. Yay! A clue for both sides of the pond!

@frognbuff: HMS Victory is the oldest commissioned warship in the world (commissioned 1778, laid down in 1759; USS Constitution laid down in 1794, so can't possibly be older than HMS Victory).

Well, nitpicks aside. HMS Victory is the oldest commissioned warship while the USS Constitution is the oldest commissioned warship still afloat. Victory went into drydock in 1922!

So why is an Iron Maiden considered a torture device and not an execution device? Was it used in some case to chop of limbs instead of the head?
+1
Level 81

I think you are thinking of a guillotine? An iron maiden is sort of a metal sarcophagus lined inside with spikes, that I believe was never actually used as a real medieval torture device but invented later and purported to be one, and now can be found all over Europe in those kitschy and 90% BS tourist trap museums of torture in cities like Prague, Budapest, and San Marino.
