Listen to College Dropout, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, and Late Registration. He may do and say ridiculous stuff in public, but the man has made a lot of incredible music.
I too am responding 5 years late. I don't agree that TommyG's statement is true. If it was then Kanye wouldn't be famous. However, I myself could care less about his music. The man is as disrespectful as they come.
You're responding to a reply on a 3 year old comment, which by your logic is even more lame than the reply. This site is old and its older quizzes still get updated from time to time so of course there will be new people commenting on old quizzes. Also, saying you "could" care less instead of "couldn't" actually does change the meaning of the sentence quite a lot.
Lupe Fiasco's take on "Jesus Walks," titled "Muhammad Walks," is a much more solid song in my opinion. And honestly, most of Kanye's hits really aren't that great. I'm not saying he is completely bad, but I just haven't heard much from him that I like. And yes he has an annoying personality.
Personality and controversies aside, he is a terrible rapper, can't even rhyme words that normally rhyme together, and also an awful lyricist. Tries to be clever but isn't really. The parts of his songs that are catchy are sampled or copied from elsewhere. He doesn't have a good voice- has to autotune himself to the point of being unrecognizable. He is a decent producer and sampler but that's about it, really.
For an artist to be great, they don't have to be the most talented in terms of raw skill. Someone being a bad rapper or singer does not mean they cannot produce brilliant work. Art is great when it allows self expression. The best part of Kanye's music is that he takes it so seriously that it really does show his soul... his twisted, egomaniacal, crazypants soul.
I got one right and that's because of Jetpunk. I also do remember they had a kid called "North", but to me that just sounds like a male name, so I didn't even think of it in the quiz.
Wow people must have really must have hated Kanye in 2013 even more than they do now judging by the earlier comments. And that doesn't even consider 2009. Whatever, he's a great artist and he's a jackass. Crazy how someone can be both even if they're *gasp* black.
I really don't see what his race has to do with anything. He does plenty of stuff that warrants people disliking him. There is no denying his musical talent, but there are plenty of reasons for people to hate Kanye that have nothing to do with his race.
Not too long ago, I defended Kanye's inclusion on one if the Famous Villains quizzes. As I said at that time, he is the perfect American supervillain. He riled the Republicans with his comments about George W. Bush, he distressed the Democrats with his strange love for Donald Trump, and then he even tormented teenage girls who don't even follow politics with his Taylor Swift incidents. Who else can piss off that wide a variety of a variety of people?
"In January 2021, CNN reported that the couple were discussing divorce and on February 19, 2021, Kardashian officially filed for divorce. In April 2021, they both agreed before court that they would end their marriage due to "irreconcilable differences" and agreed to joint custody of their four children. They also agreed that they do not need spousal support.", makes it sound more like an ex-wife.
It does not come as a surprise that this website isn't really an audience for Kanye West but there was so much hate for him when this quiz came out in 2013. His personality has only gotten more insufferable but he has equally cemented himself as one of the most influential music artists of all time. Wonder if the site's opinion is the same
Why would it have changed, especially if his personality has gotten more obnoxious? I would wager most people couldn't care less about rap or Kanye's influence on music, but probably form opinions about him whenever he makes the news for something ridiculous.
Maybe I'm crazy... but Taylor Swift's video was stupid and generic. Beyonce's was culturally significant and sensational. Everyone knows that three people doing that dance in black leotards is from Single Ladies. Basically, I'm saying that Kanye West was probably right that Beyonce's video should have won... as much as I guess a video can deserve to win a silly little prize?
How is it generic? Her album Fearless made country mainstream and brought it worldwide. And the You Belong With Me video was iconic and actually had a plot unlike some people dancing.
Made country mainstream? Shania Twain was very popular in the 90s in the mainstream. Faith Hill had one of the biggest hits on the pop charts ever before Swift came along. And as far as plot goes... the plot of "hot guy likes cheerleader so I'm jealous" isn't exactly groundbreaking. Furthermore! What's wrong with a music video featuring an extremely tight dance routine with one of the biggest vocalists of all time? Do people remember the plot to Singing in the Rain? Or do they remember Fred Astaire's sick dance movies? Beyonce's dance was iconic and, well, people dance to music sometimes? So dancing in a music video to express artistry seems like fair game to me! Keep your bubble gum teenager plot, show me the choreography!
I’ve been a fan of Kanye for a while but what he did was stupid and disrespectful, you can have opinions on who the award goes to (I personally don’t care) but what he did was over the line.
Graduation.
His name's Ye now.
